Owner description: Waterfall slide, sending 11,000 gallons of water down a huge rock each minute.

If you want to take a walk on the wild side, but not walk too far, Sliding Rock is great. It's definitely a rush to plunge down a 60-foot rock into an ice-cold pool of water. But you're in the company of a hundred other people, and there's a stairway and lifeguards, so you can even take your kids for a ride.

If you are near this, don't miss it! And really I say that not just because this is a very family fun for all attraction but for the Pisgah National Forest around it ... amazing waterfalls, pools, trails, and NC Blue Ridge water places galore! You can walk, swim, float right beside real and great waterfalls ... with no rangers, no people, and no distractions around except the cold water.

Note: May not look it, but do NOT wear glasses on the sliding rock.

This is the kind of attraction that really makes an impression on a traveler. We went in mid-July, and the wait was about 20 minutes. We had been on a waterslide that we adored in Ohiopyle State Park near Pittsburgh, and this one was far smoother, yet more exhilarating. The temperature? Well, it's a little colder than "refreshing". It's surprising, but not ridiculous-- the coldness was not enough to make anybody sorry they went, and it wasn't the major topic of conversation. Sturdy swimsuits are probably sufficient-- you're not going to get many repeat rides in, considering the popularity. A very, very pleasant experience.

Best $1 I ever spent! The water is cold though and the rocks on in the splash pool are slippery. You may have to wait in line, but the line moves quickly. Go on a warm day.

My family has been coming back to North Carolina for the last 20 years and we always make our pilgrimage to Sliding Rock. It has become a Spring Break tradition and is now into its second generation. We do it in April and it is freezing cold but darn well worth it. It helps to remind you of how alive you can feel!
