After a morning or afternoon of shooting waterfalls in DuPont State Forest or the Pisgah National Forest, you’ll probably be hungry for more than just a power bar or some trail mix. you should stop at the Hawg Wild Bar-B-Que restaurant located on Route 276 next to the Hub and Back Country Outdoors.

They serve both Western (tomato-based) and Eastern (vinegar-based) style North Carolina chopped pork barbecue, chicken, or ribs, They also have charbroiled chicken, rainbow trout, and country fried steak. Start with some fried pickles and don’t eat too many of their excellent hush puppies or you won’t have room for the good-sized dinner portions.

You can read more and find information about accessible waterfalls in the area at http://www.theagingphotographer.com/great-north-carolina-bbq-near-dupont-state-forest/

We were visiting our friends in NC and had worked up an appetite after hiking around Looking Glass Falls and Triple Falls. Our friends took us to one of their favorite Bar B Que - Hawg Wild. The service was great and they were very accommodating as we wanted to try the meat without all of the sauce on it. We decided to order the combination BBQ Dinner that included western pork (tomato based) eastern pork (vinegar based) and chicken. I must say that I was hesitant about a vinegar based BBQ but it was really very good and so was the western pork. The chicken was okay but I thought it was a little overcooked & dry (personal opinion). I would definitely go back to this BBQ if I were in the area again.
