Description: Spend Your Night Out At Carolina Brewery: If you're looking for a great place to grab some grub and drink a fine microbrew or glass of wine then you need to swing by Carolina Brewery of Pittsboro, NC. Carolina Brewery offers a deliciously diverse menu selection - not what you might expect from a brewpub! You'll fall in love with our Pittsboro location. It's perfect for celebrating fun events with your family and friends. From birthdays to game nights, our pub is the place to be. Opened In 2007: After the great success of our first location in Chapel Hill we decided to grow our family by adding our fantastic Pittsboro location. For 8 years, this location has been serving great beer right at the intersection of Hwy 501 and the 64 bypass.

“It was good, though I had hoped for something else...”
Reviewed 5 April 2012

I've been to the Carolina Brewery in Chapel Hill several times and had always wanted to go to the one in Pittsboro, which I was told was at the junction of US Highways 64 and 15-501. Having spent time in Pittsboro as a kid when my grandparents lived there, I assumed that meant the restaurant was located downtown near the traffic circle and would therefore by a quaint place to grab a bite and a pint.

Unfortunately, the restaurant is located at the junction of 15-501 and US 64 BYPASS...meaning that it is miles north of downtown. The Carolina Brewery is located in a generic brick strip mall looking complex near a Japan Express with a view of the parking lot of Lowes Home Improvement...quite the letdown from the small town charm I had hoped for.

The service was okay, the food was good (the pimiento cheese and fried green tomato sandwich was tasty)...there was nothing WRONG with the experience...but there was nothing special about it either.

I came very close to giving a 3 star average review here, but I'm afraid my own expectiations were perhaps unreasonable. If you happen to be traveling on US Highway 64 bypass and want a good meal right off the exit, this is a good choice.

If your'e looking for atmosphere and a memorable experience...look elsewhere.

“What happened?”
Reviewed 24 October 2011

After reviewing Carolina Brewery in September we've been back a couple times, and we don't know what happened. The last two times we've been, the service has been nonexistent. We went last Saturday night at 10:45 (they close at midnight) and found the place nearly deserted: one bartender, one customer, one waitress. We sat ourselves and waited for five minutes before anyone even addressed us, much less asked if we wanted food. The bartender was engaged in conversation with the other customer, who appeared more interested in locating a waitress who used to work there than in ordering anything to eat or drink. We gave up on getting food and just ordered a growler of beer.

The beer's still good, but the food is not worth the wait. I can't help but think that we're not the only people who've noticed the service issue: when you go to a sports bar at 10:45 on a Saturday during the World Series, it's never a good sign when there's no one else in the place.

“Local color at its best, made better by the beer.”
Reviewed 1 September 2011

We live just a few miles from the Pittsboro Carolina Brewery, and frequent them fairly regularly. The food is better than you might expect from a "sports bar" looking brewery. They recently began offering meats provided by a local organic farm (Lilly Den), which are offered for a slight price increase on many dishes. You should definitely try the upgrade, it is more than worth it.

You may be offered the chance to join their "brew crew," a frequent flyer-style membership in the brewery which offers deals, discounts, and the like. I was really disappointed in our Brew Crew membership, however. The deals and discounts seem more like "free spam email," and we didn't get credit for the nearly one hundred dollar meal at which we joined. I felt that having been offered the membership at this meal, the points we would have accrued for it should have counted toward us. They did not, even after more than one (polite) conversation with the staff.

That notwithstanding, the Brewery is a great place to watch the game, have a burger, and of course sample some of their truly outstanding beers. They offer a program where you can buy a "growler" of beer and get a four dollar credit for bringing back the bottle, which is a must do if you partake as often as you'll want to.

“Friendly and affordable, a little hard to find”
Reviewed 6 July 2011

Not a full review since we basically just popped in for beer and appetizers. The restaurant is off of 15-501 besides a Lowe's and can't be seen from the road. Turn in where Lowe's is and follow the road around and to the right. We sat at the bar and were served by a very friendly lady bartender. The wheat beer and amber ale were very good, as were our small order of nachos. Overall, it looked like a very relaxed establishment with lots of regulars. We had been to the one in Chapel Hill many times but this was our first visit to the Pittsboro location. Will definitely consider going back next time we're in the area.

“Great food, great beer.”
Reviewed 24 June 2011

Always really good food - burgers from local beef, fantastic wings, and good salads. The beer is made on-site and is always fresh and really good. Gets busy evenings and weekends, but worth it. Local music on weekends.
