“A Jewel in Raleigh”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Raleigh and Wake County have invested heavily in parks and greenways. Lake Johnson is one of these parks which has benefited from the investment. There are two main trails - one paved (and tougher than you might think if you are walking it clockwise) and one unpaved but well marked. This is a busy park but a great place to get outside and enjoy a beautiful day.

“Amazing walking/running path.”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Came across this park while looking for a place to walk and this was amazing. If you have a stroller (like I do); make sure to bring a jogging one. There are a few areas that have roots sticking out and there are many hills; this was a perfect loop when looking for a place to walk. While we were walking there were many people running and on bikes. The path was big enough to accommodate everyone that was using it.

I liked how clean the path was, there wasn't any trash and there were trash cans placed around. I plan on coming back here frequently while in the area to walk this loop. Highly, Highly recommend!!

“Pretty standard park, great for a jog or boat ride”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

I like Lake Johnson Park because it's in a great location and right down the road from my place. It's a fun park to visit for a jog or renting a boat.

Pros:
-Nice trails (paved and unpaved)
-Great for hiking and jogging/running
-Variety of boats to rent

Cons:
-Not very many garbage cans on the trails and I see trash almost every time I go out there
-They don't allow boat rentals when there's a breeze
-Not nearly enough parking

“Great Park!”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

This is a great place to walk, bike, hike, fish, canoe, kayak...you get the idea. The paved trail is about 2 miles around. It is just beautiful. You can also go off the paved trails if you want. You can bring your dog (as long as it is leashed and you clean up after it) people can't swim here, but your dog can if they want to fetch sticks in the water. I liked how clean the park was. Great park. Will definitely be visiting here again the next time I am in Raleigh.

“Lake, trails and a few hills,”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

What more could you ask! I have walked Lake Johnson a number of times with my adult children but this week I was presented the opportunity to lap it with my bike. I had just as much fun with the bike as with foot travel. The trail does have a few years on it, so some root bounce, but it is trail not a road with cars and such to deal with. The best part is that I road to it from the State Farmers Market with less than an eighth of a mile of road. Walnut Creek trail to the right at the market is now complete and allows a connection through Centennial Campus. The is all asphalt or decked bridging and has public restrooms and water available. The best part is that it has hills and plenty of gorgeous wooded countryside to walk or ride through.
Get out and enjoy!
