“Excellent service, clean and very welcoming”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

Stayed there with two dogs, superb room with super king bed, beds and bowls for the dogs and fantastic top class food. Ordered the room service from the dog menu, which was a nice treat and couldn't make us more welcome, totally unexpected when you have dogs! The reception were warm and welcoming from the first call to the check out and restaurant staff couldn't do more for you. Would definitely go back and also try their other hotels in Stamford. We have been to many dog hotels over the years and definitely this is the best dog hotel we have been to so far!

We stayed here for a small family gathering with one night's stay with dinner and breakfast.
Having stayed last summer at another hotel in this group, which was excellent (The William Cecil, Stamford) we looked forward to the same level of satisfaction.
Much of the stay was very good.
The Reception staff and waiting staff were efficient, professional and friendly.
The dinner was very good - all 6 of our dinners living up to expectations. Very good waitress who coped well despite being the only person on duty in the restaurant (more later).
Breakfast was not so clever:
The hotel appeared to be full and yet only one waiter was trying to take orders, serve tea & coffee, clear tables and try to find tables for arriving guests.
To be fair, he didn't stop and did the best he could but with tables uncleared our party of 6 sat on 3 different tables in opposite corners of the room.
Knowing that the hotel was busy surely the management should have anticipated a busy breakfast period and organised enough staff?
The building itself looks as though it is nearing a complete overhaul. Carpets frayed and stained and paintwork looking very tired. Our broken radiator had to have a running repair courtesy of sellotape. It worked, but not particularly professional.
It's a shame that a place that can do many things very well lets itself and the Hillbrook Group down. Prior to this visit I would have booked another Hillbrook without hesitation. Now I'll look around at others.

thanks for taking the time to leave your review, we are pleased that you enjoyed parts of your stay with us but must apologise for our short comings at breakfast. We also have an ongoing refurbishment program in place where we are tackling the areas of the business that need it.

Our party of 8 all had lovely meals. Some enjoyed a Sunday roast but I fancied ham eggs and chips. The eggs were cooked to perfection while the ham melted in my mouth. The chips were crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. The deserts were yummy especially the sticky toffee pudding. Our waitress was very good and we had a laugh with her. Will definitely go back

Two of us for lunch which doubled the numbers in this restaurant. And so we missed the vital clue!
It was empty for a reason!
We decided both on Fish & Chips. Again we missed the clue, 'no name' fish, was it Cod or Haddock we inquired? 'Cod' came the less than positive answer. Obviously this cod died of starvation or being drowned in a batter designed to hide the lack of fish inside, whatever it was.
I remember this place as The Copper Inn when it had an excellent kitchen, oh, so long ago. I won't be going back. This is one Elephant that may die a natural death. My impression was simple, the staff couldn't care less.

Visited for a quick business lunch with 9 colleagues/customers... Bar area was full but the staff specially made us up a table in the restaurant... Service was quick and lunch menu focused on traditional classics such as fish and chips, ham egg and chips etc... Very tasty and well presented food and good value with main courses averaging £9... Overall very good and will visit again when next in the Pangbourne area... Well done to the team at The Elephant

I'm currently staying here on business. It's a lovely boutique hotel, and room 5 is small but perfectly formed. Nice comfy bed, well appointed bathroom with great toiletries. In the room is a flat screen TV, kettle with Teapigs tea bags (this is a massive plus in my book), a cafetiere and filter coffee. The breakfast here is incredible, and the hotel more than lives up to its positive reviews. In fact I decided to inconvenience myself by staying here and driving into Thatcham rather than staying somewhere closer, as The Elephant gets justifiably great reviews.

First time at the hotel (2 days) - picked it up through a hotel deal web-site. Wasn't too sure what to expect, but the reviews were generally good........
As everyone has previously mentioned in other reviews, the service is excellent - particularly Irene (the Spanish lady) who seems to work her socks off and is always so polite and attentive.
The rooms are a little quirky (themed) but have everything you need.
It seems that most people pick up one of the food deals in the bar where you get a mixture of food and drink deals (2 main courses and a bottle of wine - £20.00), but you have to order by 7.00pm - and the bar gets busy!
There are also some decent bars and restaurants a short walk from the hotel, so worth exploring if you're there for a few days.

Room Tip: We had room 1 which was at the back of the hotel and overlooked the gardens and the church - very qu...
