We had a nice room, Room 007 which was outside and across from the main building. The bathroom was great, excellent shower, nice towels etc, the bedroom was spacious, beds comfortable - in fact a four poster bed! Yes, you can hear the trains but for us it wasn't an issue. Good hairdryer. Dinner was mediocre, breakfast was good - a very smart breakfast room. No wifi reception except in main building. Staff are working hard.

This hotel looked fine and cosy in the book-pictures, but is was very disappointing.
10 Times an hour , there was a train passing so nearby that you couldn't understand each other and it was the same at night...
The food was presented as a buffet, ok , but it wasn't enough for all the people eating there.
The rooms were at the third floor, without elevator, and all the luggage must be taken by yourself, even when we asked a little help... They were clean , but the bathroom was uncomfortable an d very very small.
Just for once!

We were a party of 22 British walkers based here for a weeks holiday.

From the moment we arrived the staff were pleasant, helpful and always smiling. All enquiries were dealt with quickly and with little or no language barrier.

Rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean with plenty of wardrobe, drawer, storage space, comfortable beds with fresh linen. Some rooms had baths with showers over and others had walk in showers cubicles, all were cleaned daily to a very high standard.

Breakfast is buffet style with plenty of choice. We were on a buffet evening meal, couldn't fault it, salad or soup starter, always a veggie option plus meat and fish dish for main course. Our only moan was dessert, bit boring a large bowl of mouse most nights, but this is the Germany way seemingly. The bar area is across a small courtyard in a beautiful atmospheric vaulted cellar, like in the dining room this was staffed by lovely, helpful, smiley staff.

One thing this hotel is missing is a lounge area, when we returned from walking the choice was either sitting on the outside terrace, which was a very nice and roomy, bit chilly when we were there or sitting in your room, until 5pm when the bar opened.

The rooms at the front of the hotel look out over the river and train line which is busy, but we soon got used to the noise.

The walking in the area is spectacular and well worth a visit. Public transport is easy to navigate, buses, trains and ferries across to Bad Schandau. There is very little in Krippen, apart from 1 village shop, this wasn't a problem to us, we prefer quieter places, but if it night life, bars your after don't go there.

We went on a day trip from Krippen Station to Dresden by train, which was cheap and took 45 minutes. Some of us hired bikes in Bad Schandau for the day and cycled along the cycle path along the river to Czech boarder about 20km.

All in all a wonderful holiday and we would all go back in a flash.

Krippen has been describes as sleepy, we found it dead. The room in the hotel was ok, but the evening meal was ordinary and expensive for what we got. Also the dining room was coldit took quite a bit of perseverance to find out that we could actually get wifi. The breakfast again was ok.There did not seem to be a decent cafe in Krippen for beer coffee and cake. On this walking tour we had been booked in for 2 nights so the net result was we took the ferry back into Bad Shandau, fo an evening meal, cafe facilities. While wondering round the village, we did not see a shop, but was intrigued by the sundial designs. Yes you can get a train from here to the Czech border for walking, but on another day had to get a ferry across to start our walk
