“Charming cottage in a lovely location”
Reviewed 4 November 2013 for a stay in October 2013

This is such a pretty cottage, well equipped and with super comfy beds. The location is simply lovely and, If you're reasonably fit, you can walk to Putsborough beach in ten minutes. There are lots of other walks in the area. Oh, and you can take your dog - we did, and he loved the place too. if you have children, they will enjoy the play equipment in the garden.

“Beautiful Cottage in a quiet location in North Devon”
Reviewed 12 May 2013 for a stay in April 2013

Just enjoyed a sunny week at Putsborough Manor Cottage we couldn't have asked for a more relaxing time. The cottage has everything you need, the kitchen is well equipped, the living area is spacious and the garden is huge.
The cottage is close to the beach minimum 10 minutes walk great for early sunrises or catching the beautiful sunsets also great for walking the dogs !!
Croyde is the nearest village to get milk and other essentials at the village stores, but Georgeham also has similar facilities.
John and Claire are the perfect hosts giving advice for local fishing, shooting venues and good places to eat. We didn't eat out much but have visited The Rock and the Kings Arms in Georgeham on previous holidays and always had a nice meal both places a short drive away. What i would recommend is walking to woolacombe along the beach have lunch in the Boardwalk (great Cajun chicken burger and Thatchers Cider) and then a nice stroll back along the beach to the cottage. Putsborough is only a small hamlet so no shops but on the beach there is a small cafe and shop for your beach essentials. Another recommendation is Tesco grocery delivery we hadn't done this before but found it very useful we didn't waste time shopping for food!!
If you want somewhere nice and peaceful this is the place, one comment to my husband was "have you opened the window" you can't tell as there is no sound of cars etc. I haven't mentioned much for kids to do as we didn't have any with us, but Putsborough Manor cottage does cater for children with climbing frame etc in the garden the beach close by and plenty of doors to stop toddlers getting to stairs etc it has everything. As you can tell I loved it and we will be going back.
The cottage is a credit to John and Claire and the new build cottage is amazing can't wait to stay there too!! Thank you for lovely holiday!

“Lovely cottage in a lovely setting”
Reviewed 8 May 2013 for a stay in March 2013

We stayed in this cottage in the first week of the Easter holiday. The setting is lovely and the cottage is very pretty and the location is very good for reaching pubs and restaurants etc but you definitely need a car. We were two families of 2 adults and 3 young children between ages of 2 and 6.

I would agree with the previous reviewer that the cottage is quite cold (we were told to keep bathroom door open to warm up kitchen) especially when the heating has not been on, but adjusting the timer on the boiler would help to solve this and it was the downstairs that was most affected as upstairs was warm. Again a small heater in the kitchen and toilet would solve this. However, you need to remember that this is an old cottage with stone floors so just remember to take your slippers. Remember we were an all girl group so would obviously feel the cold.

Even with the comments around the heating, I would go back and stay and would have booked on our departure for August had there been availability.

Adjust the heating issue and I would say the owners have it 100% right.

Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay although it was a shame the cottage was fully booked when you wanted to come to stay again. Next time you stay just contact me about adjusting the heating and I would be happy to help, PS there IS a heater in the kitchen under the sink unit, you must have missed it?!

“Winter Wary”
Reviewed 30 January 2013 for a stay in January 2013

This is a beautiful, picture-perfect cottage...but NOT for winter stay. We had no control over the heat and spent most of the time trying to stay warm. We were on holiday and didn't particularly want to go to bed at 10:30 when the heat went off. Also...beware of the bath tub/jacuzzi/shower because the surface is very slippery and there isn't anything to hold onto when getting out. If you go in the next few months, be aware that construction is going on across the street, and the noise (including workers' radios) during the day isn't conducive to a peaceful stay. The cottage is clean, and the kitchen well stocked with everything needed to prepare a meal....we also enjoyed the scones and cream that awaited our arrival. Hopefully this will help you when deciding where to stay in North Devon!

Liked best: The thatched roof and picturesque exterior. Also that we could bring our dog.
Liked least: The lack of heat and the rather dangerous bathtub.

What a shame that you didn't talk to me about your concerns when I could have so easily have helped you! The cottage not only has central heating, but also storage heater which is on all day and the log burner (which I dont think you used), and indeed we get many reviews about how cosy the cottage is - see the previous comment. Whilst there is work happening across the lane which will soon be over, it is not visible from the cottage or the garden. The work men are inside the building and are not allowed radios. The spa bath has the usual bath access - although I do appreciate that for older guests a rail may be useful, so I will ensure that one is fitted.
