“Great Location, great facilities, clean and professionally maintained”
Reviewed 2 April 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We stayed here with a group of friends, this is a perfect house for a group of friends and'or family. Very open and socialable kitchen and living/dining area with a balcony that catches the sun late into the evening. The location is near perfect, 'The Thatch' pub is just over the road serving great beer and food as well as often playing live Music. The beach is within walking distance also.

This location itself is one back from the road so is very quiet and has plenty of parking which is hard to come by in Croyde.

First class and will certainly go again.

“Christmas celebrated in great comfort”
Reviewed 27 December 2013 for a stay in December 2013

We had three nights in Priory Stables arriving early morning on the first day which made travelling the 175 miles from home easy as we could miss the traffic but not have to wait till 4.00 pm to access the house. The accommodation is excellent and the seven of us were very comfortable though the bunk beds were too short for even the shortest of us but the bed settee in the living room was very comfortable.

The beds were extremely good, no problem sleeping in strange beds. The three loos/bathrooms were much appreciated - no queuing in the mornings. The kitchen is very well appointed and to a high standard. Dining table for 8 plus the kitchen table if needed.

The dining room and living room are open to each other which makes for enough space for people to spread out but remain as a group. Plenty of comfortable seating to watch television or socialise around the coffee table. All good quality and robust furniture. The newly upgraded hot water system is very effective for showering and general washing. The central heating was effective and could be fully controlled on the programmer though there are no individual controls on the radiators in the dining and living rooms.

Parking is described as for four cars, yes at a pinch if they are small but three medium/large cars fitted in with no problems.

Beach is 10 to 15 minutes walk away down pathways and the wave rollers in December are spectacular, wind is very bracing some days.

An excellent central location and is well recommended.

“Very good accommodation in the centre of Croyde”
Reviewed 15 November 2013 for a stay in November 2013

Priory Stables ticked so many boxes for us. Great central location in Croyde, only 50 dyes from The Thatch pub which provided very good food and entertainment for the group.
The highlights of the accommodation were the high standard of decor, wireless broadband (a must in this day and age), flat screen TV and well appointed kitchen. Clean and comfortable plus easy to find. The deck outside was a great place to chill out and enjoy the fresh air of the coast

“Perfect retreat for a group of friends”
Reviewed 13 November 2013 for a stay in November 2013

We booked Priory Stables in Croyde as a retreat on a shooting weekend. At first we were concerned that it might only be suited as a destination for those looking for a beach holiday or as a surfing destination but it proved to be a perfect retreat for us after a days shooting 45 minutes away. Getting in and out of Croyde was easy and it was the ideal place for us to relax after a great day in the outdoors. There was plenty of room for 5 burley men and so easy for us to walk to the nearby pub for dinner. I wouldn't hesitate to book again and will definitely be recommending it to my friends, whether for a group or for a family, it fits the bill.

Wow. Didn't expect such space, attention to detail and comfort. Well done guys on providing a tardis of luxury. I'll be coming back here and with the ease of booking, proximity to everything I needed and that wonderful bedroom and sitting room I can't wait to return.

“Doesn't live up to past reviews.”
Reviewed 20 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

Having read good reviews to Priory Cottage I was disappointed to find that it didn't live up to expectations. The general cleanliness of the house was poor. We found established cobwebs throughout the house, ones that could not have appeared over night. There was mould growing on the curtains in the double bedroom that has the bunk beds off it. This shows the property hasn't been aired. There was dust on the window sill surfaces, a few dead insects on them also. The sides in the kitchen felt tacky, and needed a good wipe down before we cooked breakfast in the morning. Basic inspections of the property do not seem to be happening. A light bulb had gone in the downstairs bathroom, which made it darker. One was also not working in the dining area. The kitchen clock wasn't working as the battery was dead. One of the guests had an uncomfortable night sleep in the twin room, and after looking found slats from the bed had been removed and left on the floor under the bed. The back door also didn't shut properly. The toilet seats moved when sitting on them, and the grime mark around the sink in the bathroom didn't leave you feeling clean after using the bathroom. The plug socket in the kitchen by the microwave was fixed securely to the wall, which is a health and safety issue. The dish washer has seen better days, as during each wash it emitted a burning smell.

The location of the property was great, and parking was good. However due to all of the things that were wrong, it felt like the owner relies on location to keep customers happy rather then the quality of the property.

The last review for this property as July, so I am guessing that it hasn't been used since then, and hasn't had a clean through since the last guests stayed there.

Management Response
23 Oct 2013
We always try to keep Priory Stables to a high standard of cleanliness and I have had many complimentary emails/reviews from previous guests to this affect and glowing reports of my housekeeper. We are always quick to respond to guest complaints as nothing runs perfectly so it would have been more beneficial if you had contacted us when you arrived reagrding the cleanliness so that I could get the housekeepr back in to address. I was surprised to hear your comments about the kitchen and specfically the dishwasher. I installed a brand new kitchen and dishwasher the start of October and you were the first guests to use it. Priory Stables has been continuously busy since July to October and this is the first complaint we have received. However, we welcome all feedback and I will be addressing the cleanliness to ensure we maintain the same high standards as previous reviews all indicate.
