“Enjoyable weekend”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

We stayed at this holiday village for a weekend on 15 August 2014 & we loved it, beautiful place, great staff, friendly atmosphere but entertainment needs improvement requires better shows & activities but overall great place to visit my 10 year old son loved it & wants to return.

You may a see from other comments- as we have done- that some of the children's cabarets were not to our expected standard, we apologise for this. We have addressed that in the short term and will endeavour to ensure that it does not re occur, thank you for letting us know and for saying that everything else was so good.

We have stayed at this holiday village for over 10 years now and have noticed a deterioration each time we have visited over the last 5 years.
Firstly, the accommodation is in dire need of updating and improving for the amount charged when booking in advance, as we have always done to guarantee securing our holiday. Due to these extortionate prices we have found that many of the self catering cottages have been empty this year and management are trying to fill these by sending out emails with 3 or 4 night deals for a fraction of what we've paid. For instance, there were 3 night deals for £149 when it cost us £1300 for a week by pre-booking!! As returning customers we find this utterly disgusting and an insult to our customer loyalty, as management are not interested in a fair price to pre-book, it appears they would rather attempt to give away holidays at the very last minute which evidently isn't that successful as it would be fully booked if so.
Secondly, the entertainment was poor last year and many people complained, we were asked for our opinion but sadly this did not appear to have been acknowledged as the entertainment was just as appalling this year. Acts such as 'Captain Coconut' and 'Spangles the Clown' are based on entertaining children therefore they should not be the main cabaret at 9pm. The only thing enjoyable about the evening entertainment is the line dancing as this has always been something that has made this holiday village unique and encourages people to dance. The decision to place a dance floor in the middle of a restaurant and to have Benny Bear come on when people are still finishing their meals is sadly one of the many backwards steps this holiday village has taken.
If you take note, many of the good reviews are people who have been able to take advantage of the 'deals'.
Croyde is a beautiful place. Great for surfing, lovely quaint village and many attractions near by. However, we will be looking to stay elsewhere in Croyde in the future as there is better accommodation on offer for a fairer price. Without new management who are willing to listen and show an interest in good customer care, can only see this once thriving holiday village going downhill further.

Hello and thank you for commenting. We have looked at the cottages you refer to and whilst we do not agree that they are in 'dire need' we will agree that we could make some improvements for next season. We are sorry if one of our last minute offers clashed with your pre booked holiday we do endeavour to avoid such things happening. our occupancy is quite good this year but as we offer non traditional set breaks and so there are times when some units are empty.
We did have some problems with children's cabarets, and we do focus on the children during family weeks but will review how this is offered in view of comments- we do try to listen and we do make changes but take into account many different comments that come to us either in person , on trip advisor and on the in house forms.

The memory of my long birthday weekend this year is one that I will recall as one of the very best. Croyde Bay was recommended by a friend as I was on a tight budget and struggling to find suitable accommodation for seven of us and dog. The resort offered a Waggy Tails cottage and I was given a great deal as was early in the season. Our accommodation was perfect, very well equipped, spacious and clean and not a whiff of dog or hair anywhere. We didn’t eat in the restaurant as intended as the weather was exceptionally fabulous for June so we purchased a disposable barbecue and food in the onsite shop which had normal supermarket prices. The village was also perfect for my young grandchildren who made the most of the free facilities spending time in the indoor pool and playing crazy golf, climbing on the play equipment, bowls and snooker… Everyone was happy, dog was happy and the staff were very welcoming and happy people too.

Just returned from four nights in an Atlantic cottage. Perfect location for Croyde Bay. Our grandchildren thoroughly enjoyed their first taste of boogie boarding in the sunshine. The staff at Unison couldn't have been more accommodating and the resort has a real feel-good atmosphere. Very clean and tidy and the accommodation and facilities were all we needed. This was our third visit and I would recommend it to friends.

Room Tip: Atlantic cottages are a stones throw from the dunes and Croyde Bay beach.

My family and I have just returned from a two week stay at this 'holiday village'. To be generous the evening entertainment was 'poor' at best. We went to watch the children's and adult's entertainment (it's difficult to tell the difference between the two) which is all held in the restaurant so be wary of spilled food underfoot. The acts were second rate and many people left after watching about five minutes, couple this with very high bar prices we decided to miss all the evenings' entertainment the second week and take a walk into the local village where the drinks prices are cheaper and you have no fear of slipping on food ). We made the mistake of booking in advance and found out that the family staying next door to us payed only a quarter of the price because of a 'late booking' deal. This may account for the many chalets and cottages that appeared empty during our stay.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Regarding the entertainment we do try to concentrate more on the children's aspect of this during school holidays, unfortunately we were not happy with the standard of a couple of those acts and did replace some. Our bar prices are actually below that of the local pubs so am unsure how to respond to that comment. We will make sure that more attention is paid to the cleanliness of floors during meal times and after and apologise for what you noted. Late deals can sometimes save you money but are not always available, particularly if you require specific accommodation.

Enjoyed our 4 night stay, early in the season so quiet and not to busy. Food good not fancy but basic and ample. We stayed in a cabin which was clean heated but TV could be better. A comfortable chair would be a good improvement.
Evening entertainment acceptable but I think it improves later in the season.
Only problem lipstick on the glasses in the bar but after a chat with the staff this improved each glass inspected before serving.
This was our 4th stay and would go again good value for what you get
