La Maison William Wakeham
Ranked #10 of 10 Gaspe B&B and Inns
Reviewed 5 June 2013

We stayed here for two nights In May with our friends during a touring holiday in Gaspesie. It was a memorable experience due to the wonderful team working there and the owner/chef Desmond.
This is a historical inn and we stayed in the "Reine" and "Rustique" rooms. The Reine is like going back in time with the four poster bed and window seats. If you take the Rustique room you will be sharing with a moose head but this all adds to the charm and originality of the place! These are not your usual standard hotel rooms but stand out because of that!
We ate in the restaurant each evening and it was definitely a good decision. The service was professional yet friendly (thank you Real!) and we got good advice about the dishes on offer. The scallops (petoncles) were delicious and the lamb we had on the second night is definitely to be recommended! However the best of all was a lobster bisque made by Desmond and which we all thought to be the best we had ever tasted! Good wine list with very reasonable prices.
Breakfasts were delicious and freshly cooked to order with charming service (didnt get the name sorry!).
We all agreed that we had really enjoyed the hospitality at the Wakeham and we would recommend you give it a try if you are in Gaspe!

Room Tip: If you want to go back in time, then choose the "Reine" room!

This hotel has unique rooms, every room is different. The food is among the best I have ever had anywhere. Desmond and his staff made us feel very welcome and their attention to detail is fabulous. Highly recommended.

Every one was so friendly and the food just right, then to round it all off, at breakfast we discovered the Desmond came from the North of England like myself. Would not hesitate to recommend this Auberge to anyone visiting Gaspe

You will not be dissappointed. Our stay at Maison Wakeham made our visit to Gaspe all that more spectacular. Desmond and his staff were fabulous and made us feel so welcome for our week's stay. Our view of the Bay from our room (The Baker) was second to none. As avid travellers, we have stayed in many hotels and B & B's and Maison Wakeham exceeded our expectations, from superb breakfasts, room cleanliness to friendly staff. We highly recommend this Auberge to everyone travelling to the beautiful Gaspe.

We spent 4 nights at the Wakeham - Desmond and his entire staff were very welcoming and friendly. We stayed in the Rustique suite - which was very comfortable - especially after we got used to and made friends with the moosehead! The breakfasts we had each morning and the two dinners were delicious and served by a very professional team. The location is within easy walking distance of the old town and we used the Inn as a base to explore Forillon Park and Perce as well. We had a lovely stay and definitely recommend the Wakeham.

This is a wonderful place to stay in Gaspe. It was close to everything in town- yet still secluded enough to get great sleep. The bed & breakfast itself is very historical and the owner of the place is a great chef!! If you're looking for the best place to eat, sleep, or both then La Maison William Wakeham is definitely where you want to go. The room was kept very clean and we had a great view of a full moon over the water! Everything about it was perfect!

Room Tip: They have a room in the summer that can accommodate larger groups. Bathroom was very nice (we had a...

I wanted the experience of an auberge rather than a motel for a more personalized experience. In this Desmond Ogden, owner of the William Wakeham house has exceeded our expectations. The auberge is a very fine house, dating of 1860 and full of charm while very comfortable, but what is remarquable is the service. M. Ogden made us feel right at home, and the food was incredible. As a chef, every meal he prepares is not only delicious but one of a kind.

The Maison William Wakeham is a must for anyone who wants an unforgettable stay in Gaspé.
