This is a little tourist town with plenty of shops & dining options. The highlight of the area are the huge rocks, the island and the various birds that make their homes there. It is well worth taking a boat ride around Perce Rock and out to the island where you can get off and hike (optional) and catch another boat ride home (there are several boats with each company such that they are leaving the island every half hour - just make sure you don't lose your stub!). There was a bit of fog when we visited but it kept lifting/returning so we were able to catch glimpses of the rocks & island. The birds that make their homes around the island are an amazing site - truly awe-inspiring, BUT they do fly over you and we noticed a few small white spots splattered on our clothes after the boat ride - not a lot, but there were some (just in case, you may want to bring a poncho?). The boat ride is about 1.5hrs from start to finish (if you don't get off on the island) and the island takes several hours to fully explore if you choose to do so. Many of the boats have an internal area to sit if it is too cold outside (our children opted for this on the return trip from the island). It was A LOT cooler on the water than on the shore, so bring extra layers.
