Pierced Rock (Rocher-Perce)
Ranked #2 of 24 things to do in Gaspe
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 6 August 2013

This is a little tourist town with plenty of shops & dining options. The highlight of the area are the huge rocks, the island and the various birds that make their homes there. It is well worth taking a boat ride around Perce Rock and out to the island where you can get off and hike (optional) and catch another boat ride home (there are several boats with each company such that they are leaving the island every half hour - just make sure you don't lose your stub!). There was a bit of fog when we visited but it kept lifting/returning so we were able to catch glimpses of the rocks & island. The birds that make their homes around the island are an amazing site - truly awe-inspiring, BUT they do fly over you and we noticed a few small white spots splattered on our clothes after the boat ride - not a lot, but there were some (just in case, you may want to bring a poncho?). The boat ride is about 1.5hrs from start to finish (if you don't get off on the island) and the island takes several hours to fully explore if you choose to do so. Many of the boats have an internal area to sit if it is too cold outside (our children opted for this on the return trip from the island). It was A LOT cooler on the water than on the shore, so bring extra layers.

its very surprising to see a huge rock standing in the middle of the sea for hundreds of years.we took a boat ride. we bought the tickets from our hotel in forillon park but you also can buy ticket onsite.the tour was for one hour and its totally worth it. the boat tour includes the rock from different views and also the sanctuary of thousands of birds. we also saw seals.our boat did not include whale watching but if u want u can take boat which include whale watching.the boat stops in the island of bonaventure.if anyone wants to get down they can and some came to our boat from the island.i think after every 30 minutes boats come and go.so you can visit the island if you want. we dint visit because it was very sunny.there are a lot of sea food restaurant there just on street.the food was good.

When we first arrived in Perce around noon, we couldn't see the Pierced Rock, as fog surrounded it. The locals assured us we would see it within hours. At 4 p.m. we saw it and it took our breath away. It was so beautiful!

We enjoyed viewing it from different perspectives. We even went down the beach during low tide to see it up close. The beach was covered by all kind of rocks, small and big that slowed us down big time.

To get closer to the Rock, we had to pass through the ocean water two times. Some had a tough time doing so as they had taken their shoes off and thus they experienced how slippery in can be when walking on rocks. Although the city discourages tourists from viewing the Rock up so close, due to falling rocks, they allow us still to do so. It was truly worthwhile!
