Having recently published a novel which touched on the whaling history of Eden, I was very keen to see this place. Plenty of information and artefacts although I expect in terms of modern "hands-on" museums it's a bit behind the times. There were a couple of small interactive screens to give more info but since the place is staffed by a small dedicated committee, I guess money is tight. Still - I learned quite a bit about the old families of Eden, the whaling community and the legend of the killer whale packs. Interesting.

We had no idea what killer whales are. Now we do. Well done. We had fun at this small but informative museum.

The Eden Killer Whale Museum is testimony to the wonderful foresight in preserving the memory of amazing happenings in Eden. Without spoiling the intrigue of "Old Tom" the Killer Whale, it was great that the people of those times had the wisdom to preserve and display the skeleton of this "Old Man of the Sea".
The Museum was established in the 1930's and its present location has a wonderful view over the Tasman Sea where the unbelievable exploits of killer whales and humans unfolded. The Museum tells the story of the Killer whales unique to this area, and has written stories, films, videos and guided tours to explain the goings on over decades.
Make sure you leave yourself plenty of time here, because the information is fascinating in the extreme, and you wouldn't want to leave without absorbing the wonders of it all.
Well done to the volunteers who keep the Museum in operation, and the adult entry fee of $9.00 is a steal.

For a very reasonable price $9 one gets to know how Eden commenced. The museum is full of a number of outstanding exhibits introducing whaling, fishing, the lighthouses of the area, wood chopping, the early inhabitants including the Aboriginals and how the town has developed. Amazingly they sound the siren when whales are in the bay at the Museum where you have a commanding view. Simply can't afford to miss this one. Country town hospitality (museum shuts at 3.45pm) we turned up at 2.30 - response have a look and then come back tomorrow on the same ticket and complete the tour. Thankyou.
