“Cosy and comfortable”
Reviewed 11 February 2012

A night at the Blue Shades was comfortable, but our room was of the older style and a little too small for a Queen and Single bed so that the door did not open easily because of the single bed. The room was well equipped with microwave and toaster but no crockery other than the mugs and glasses. Because of the dark brick the rooms seem quite dark.

There is a newer section with larger rooms which appear a lot brighter than the original section.

Thank you for your comments. I am sorry we haven't got crockery etc in the rooms but we find it very unhygenic from past experiences, however we do have a large selection of items that can be borrowed. (there should of been a crockery form in the room with a list of items that you can collect from reception) You may of been in room 6 and you are right the king single can get in the way a little, i'll look into that. Yes the bricks could make the room feel a little dark at times and the newer rooms in the 3rd wing are much brighter as they are solid colour walls. Thank you for your comments, we always endeavour to make improvements where possible.

Made our booking direct with the motel for our family of 7. We were given what I would describe as a room with a loft area. Downstairs we had a queen bed (obviously more used and therefore softer on one side than the other!), lounge, kitchenette and bathroom. Upstairs there was a queen, a double and a single bed with a second television and wardrobe. Not new or overly-modern, but it was clean, comfortable and good value. On one side it opened onto an area fronting the swimming pool. Parking was a bit tight as was the access way through to the area where our room was located. Hospitable staff on arrival and checkout. Way better than anything else we've stayed at in Maryborough.

Well what an experience. First the shock of having a double bunk, a double bed and a single bed all in the one room. Then to see that the 'kitchen' was a bench with a little fridge on top of it and a kettle, nothing else, not even a sink!!

I quickly shut the door and went to the restaurant where I was served a 'lettuce and chip floater' - it was supposed to be barramundi with a cheese sauce, chips and salad. Well the 'sauce' was a watery yellow colour and i covered the plate, the chips where soaking in this watery mixture and the lettuce looked like spinach, as it too was sitting in this mixture.

Next morning I noticed the mattress was threadbare and the chairs, originally cream, were a pale shade of chocolate! The breakfast was eggs and really greasy bacon.
This was rated as 4 stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I will not be staying there again, nor will anyone else from our company!

Room Tip: Try another motel if you want a good room!

Hi There
I am sorry you had a negative experience. We are extremely approachable and it would of been appreciated to tell us at the time you weren't happy with the family room. If we had another room available we would of offered that to you. In regards to the "kitchen". We have no rooms with a kitchen and you would never of been informed that through the motel staff. In regards to your dinner we have barramundi with a lemon cream sauce not a cheese sauce. This particular meal is very popular and i am sorry it wasn't to your liking. The matress is 4 years old so your comment is very unfair.
In summary the reviews you have given are very hurtful and you clearly can see your comments and ratings are in the minority.
We are a family owned and operated business and we strive to give our customers a home away from home.

Just had 2 nights in Maryborough at the Comfort Inn Blue Shades. We were in one of their older family rooms and it was great. Very clean, very comfortable beds and very spacious.

The main room had a queen bed, 2 seater lounge and 1 seater lounge. The second room had a queen bed and set of single bunks plus a single lounge chair. It is dated but extremely clean and the beds were obviously new as they were so comfortable.

The owners were extremely friendly and helpful.

It is on a main road and there is a lot of traffic. However the traffic seemed to lessen enormously around 10pm and we had no trouble going to sleep. We were also not woken by traffic noise.

We used Maryborough as a base to see it and also the Fraser Coast (Tin Can Bay, Rainbow Beach). We were so happy with the motel we picked. We would stay here again if we visited Maryborough again.

Dated decor, and bed not too comfy (bit of a rut in the middle!) but an adequate stopover on the way up north. Hubby said the manager, Trudy, was quite nice. Arrived late in the day, and left first thing in the morning so, as a bed for the night it served it's purpose.

The Managers could not do enough for us always very friendly & helpful, We stayed with a family of 5 in a 2 room unit, both rooms were very large, good beds, nice 2 seater & 1 seat lounge and a good size TV in each room. Rooms cleaned and clean towels each day.

Room Tip: Just ask the Managers by email or phone

All the motels in Maryborough seem to be on the highway in - and we could find nothing in town. The first two motels we checked were not cheap and were like prison cells - grim! grim!
The Comfort Inn was standard - made from the Meccano set of motel- building. But it was clean, roomy and friendly.
