“Japanese BBQ”
Reviewed 17 December 2013

Authentic Japanese BBQ. You feel like you are actually dining in Japan. Now JFX has 2 locations in Southport having recently opened under Nexus Towers and Southport Central.

“Disgusting. And I work in the building next door”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

I work in the building next door. I used to get food from here over a year ago until they started serving me chicken katsu curry where the chicken looked and tasted more like prawn tails. So i stopped going there until today.

I just ordered chicken katsu curry take-away, after waiting 15 minutes they bought me chicken karage on a plate.. not take-away at all. Then when i told them i ordered CHICKEN KATSU... AND... TAKE-AWAY... they went and put the karage into a takeaway container and came back. I didn't look at what was in the takeaway container because i didn't think anyone could be that stupid to screw it up twice... but they did. So now i'm at work eating a very ordinary chicken karage that barely tastes like chicken, when it wasn't even what i ordered.

Never going back to this place again. I should have stayed away after they used to serve me the most disgusting chicken i have ever eaten in my life. The only redeeming factor is that i bought a coke in a can and they managed not to screw that up... This place is an absolute joke.

“Good student dining”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

Cheap student dining! probably not as express as it the name may suggest. But definitely one of the best places for donburi around Southport. BBQ is quite good.

“Cheap and Cheerful”
Reviewed 9 August 2013

If you want simple but tasty Japanese food at a decent price then this is the place for you for either dining in or for take away. The food is great. I can recommend the chicken karage, the spicy beef bowl and the Katsu chicken curry. A must try.

“If you're a Southport local, you probably already know!”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

We tend to go once every week for lunch with my work colleagues. It is quite busy and at lunchtime you will find many other people working in the area eating there as well, The main reason for that is one of the best value for money you can get in the whole Gold Coast! An $8 rice bowl or a $11 mori mori box should be enough but if not you have plenty of side dishes to add for a few more dollars.

The food tastes really good, I have personally tried quite a few different dishes: the Chirashi bowl is amongst my favourite, the Fresh salmon bowl is really good too, the Chicken Karaage bowl is very tasty (much better than the curry version). I'd also have choose it over the Chicken Katsu bowl which comes with American mustard).

As regards side dishes, the Gyozas are fantastic but they are prawn ones, not pork as usual. The Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki are very good if you like octopus. The Fresh Salmon Yukke is a must try. There is also quite a few specials that keep changing all the time.

Also, if you can't pick only one or two things, go for the BBQ and have everything!

Desserts are good too although I have only had the kuromitsu kinako and green tea ice creams so far.

To put it in a nutshell, if you want Tasty + Cheap, that's where you should be heading to!
