My partner and I just spent the long weekend in the Clare Valley and had the pleasure of staying here. Just a short stroll to the local pub, which was quite handy as we arrived early evening. Cooked breakfast was simple and delicious and we were always greeted with a smile. Our small requests (for firewood and toilet paper) were missed, however upon asking a second time were granted. Staff very happy to help with things to do, where to eat and so on.

Room Tip: Stable Suite 4 was clean and well looked after.

Cafe is closed after 5pm so keys to rooms are usually left in the doors - we received an informative voice message with the directions to our booking of Stable Spa Suite #4 and a mobile contact number for Colleen (owner).

On arrival we found our room was cold, full of mossies, other insects, much dust and cobwebs, so it must have been vacant for awhile but once we turned on the reverse cycle aircon for some heat and had a bath with tealights and wine, we were very cozy.

The times for breakfast were unclear to us, but everytime we showed up in the cafe we were fed breakfast. On our first day we were given a choice from the cafe menu and we ordered french toast and syrup but they had no syrup...odd. Tea and coffee are excellent. On our second morning we were simply asked how we like our eggs and received the standard Aussie fry up. On the third morning we skipped the breakfast.

Also - we discovered that we could get more tealights from the staff at the cafe and there is wood in the shed in the parking lot for the room's tiny pot belly stove that was much nicer to use than the heater.

The Cygnet cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch, so for dinner we went to the Rising Sun Hotel next door and discovered they have nice meals and great selection of local wines but a little pricey, and very loud. The Terroir restaurant in the building attached to the Cygnet is not open every day and were very fancy/pricey with no selection of local wines ('you can get that anywhere' they told us) so we found driving up to Clare for a $10 hotel meal the best value for great food and good selection of local wines.

Trying the wines with dinner at the local restaurants helped us decide what wineries were worth visiting for our preferences. Loved the Gewürztraminer from the nearby Taylors winery - a very fruity German-style, dry, white, wine and their sparkling Brut Cuvée is excellent.

We enjoyed the fact that Auburn is a little out of the way from the mainstream as we were looking for a quiet romantic break, only we found that booking during the week meant that we missed out on most of the local events as they are only on the weekends.

We loved the style and ambiance of the room, the complimentary wine, port, chocolates, plunger coffee and tea along with the tealights and the spa bath, but the lack of housekeeping services during our stay and the state of the room when we arrived disappointed us. Colleen and her team were very welcoming so we would recommend others giving them a chance, but you may want to ask for a broom and some bug spray.

Room Tip: Same owner for Amy's House so you may want to discuss best room type for weather and space, as t...

Stayed in cottage suite 2 and as soon as we walked in we felt very welcomed. We started off with having our lunch at Cygnets Cafe whilst waiting for our suite to be available. The food and service was excellent, its obvious the owners are passionate of what they do. The room was clean and well presented and it gave us a real warm feeling. The fire place was just perfect to create a nice romantic ambiance. We will certainly be back. Thanks for your hospitality.

We arrived in the afternoon to find the cafe closed and no one around. A phone call enabled us to find the key and access our room. First impressions were of a cold and smelly room. The open fireplace contained logs but no kindling so we turned on the electric heater and went for a walk around this pretty little town. We returned to a warmer but still smelly room. Despite the use of the air freshener in the room we never got rid of the unpleasant sewerage odour in Room 2. The whole place just seems a bit shabby and untidy - not a good impression although rooms 3 and 4 appeared better. Breakfast was OK, no better or worse than anywhere else but the service was indifferent.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 2

Even though we arrived at just after 11am they were more then happy to cook us breakfast - and it was delicious. Eggs done the way we liked (fried for him and poached for me), soft tomatoes and crispy bacon - yum - not to mention piping hot cups of coffee and tea and plenty of butter for the toast. The ambiance was lovely and the staff were attentive. All in all a very, very pleasant experience. Cost was more then reasonable.

New owners face a long task to improve this well located peaceful place. Grounds need work & the historic rooms need a face lift or re think. Modern tv on top of wardrobe was inconvenient. Our room was prepared for arrival but the continental breakfast was very basic, until we had a much better cooked brekkie. Staff seem to be just learning to cater & not always 'on site'. Mosquitoes in room also caused issues with the attached second room. Spa nice if you get a chance to use it with so many really wonderful wineries in the area. Located a bit short of the action & a brief drive to Clare was required to find any life. Main road surprisingly noisy but rooms at the back were quiet.

Room Tip: Limited number but choose spa if that's your style.

We recently spent 2 nights at cygnets, staying in room 4. it was a quaint little place with breakfast served in the cafe on the main road..basic , but enough . although breakfast was included we werent actually told exactly what was available , we had to ask for tea/coffee the first day, it wasnt offered.
the sheets, towels etc in the room were clean but there was lots of dust under the bed and behind all the furniture, along with spider webs, and lots of mosquitoes buzzing around the first night ( we bought spray the next day so slept better the second night) the spa was nice and there were candles supplied to add atmosphere!! auburn is a sweet little town, lots of wineries and drives closeby, also a nice walk around the local area is worth doing...there is a little map available in the cafe.
