The surrounds of Esperance are glorious but the town itself is a disappointment. The whole - all of it - beachfront area, including Tanker Jetty has been closed since Feb 2013 and shows no sign of being complete in the near future. You would think it would've been far more sensible to do it in sections, but this hasnt happened. As a result, the town frontage appears disconnected and fractured. We enjoy bike/ walk paths (think Busselton, Dongara for instance), but apart from a very short bike to Castletown, and the admittedly glorious 40km Grand Ocean bike trail we did today, there is not much else. Went to the visitor centre this morning, Sat, just after 9am and along with everyone else queued to talk to the one woman on the desk, and was rold no tours were operating, in short, nothing was available. If Esperance really does fancy itself as a tourist town, with an info centre to match, it possibly needs to take a good look at how the two aforementioned places present themselves, and possibly have a critical look at their town planner or whoever it was who decided to decimate the town foreshore and shut the tanker jetty for over a year.
