A few hundred meters along Avon Terrace from the main highway through town look out for the green sign 'Stylish, modern and affordable guest rooms'. Don't believe a word of it. If you have time and no confirmed booking, drive on and find somewhere else.
We had pre-booked and arriving tired and well towards the end of the afternoon we booked in.
The building is not 'modern'. It's an old converted house of some vintage. Our room was, to say the least, bizarre. A windowless cube (our booking suggested a garden view, an aim clearly impossible to fulfil) with shower-room off, its corners were amply supplied with cobwebs - not something that you want to see in Australia! The shower room walls bore the strangest illustrations. One wall was covered, top to bottom, with a mural of grazing goats; behind the door was a picture of a cow's head.
The promised kitchenette was sparsely supplied with crocks and cutlery, just adequate but no more.
The saving graces were a big comfortable bed and ample hot water, although the strange double shower would certainly have flooded the room had both ceiling shower heads been used at once - rather taking the purpose out of double provision, I fear!
Stylish - well I suppose that depends on your view of what constitutes 'style'. It wasn't mine. 'Affordable' - we had much, much better for A$140 elsewhere in Western Australia.More
