“We loved it and rebooked for July”
Reviewed 30 March 2012

We love the fishing and National Parks on Hatteras Island but it is always hard to find a place to stay, since it is a National Park with limited hotels etc. We had 3 perfect days at Sea la Vie and rebooked for ourselves and two other couples for a fishing trip in the summer. They were not open, but Anne and her son were there painting and sprucing up for summer and let us have the master ensuite on the middle floor. We had amazing weather for this time of year and reserved middle floor for our friends and ourselves. Wine on the deck at sunset was nice and this is really like visiting a nice relative you don't know well but like a lot. One review we read here made us want to visit the place first but we will be back. The laundry issues mentioned by someone who did NOT stay here is because this island is on a septic and with all the washings of sheets, matress pads, comforters and towels the system is not big enough for all the guests to be doing laundry. Since you can't do laundry in a hotel anyway this is not an issue for us, but when we mentioned the review we had read the owner wanted to explain this. This is a very short drive to the Oregon Inlet where we like to go out on head boats and there is the nicest beach I have ever been to very close. We got to take out the kayak and her son promised us a sailing lesson on the sunfish when we return in summer. It was nice we did not have to pay for bike rentals like most places. We just used the bikes there. We lost our key to our room and felt bad but they did not charge us, said they had a master and would get a new one made. We fish here every year and this is the best price of anyplace and a beautiful home they share with guests. My husband liked the hammocks on all the decks and tried them all.

Room Tip: rooms on the middle floor have decks with hammocks and views of the sound and sunset. Rooms on the b...

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at Sie La Vie with our 2 kids in August and had a vacation we will not soon forget. The place was fully stocked with activities to keep the kids busy, nice pool, kayak, bikes, and hot tub. The view and susets were incredible. Anne (the owner) was so sweet and gave us great recommendations on where to eat. She also suggested taking the ferry to ocracoke island which was like going to a whole nother world. So quaint and lovely. The rooms were very well kept and clean. We recommend the second floor bedrooms with balconies, we enjoyed an afternoon of reading books on the hammocks while the kids played in the pool below. We will certainly be back next summer.

Room Tip: If you want to have a hammock off your room, rent on the second floor, we really enjoyed that.

I stayed at the Sea la Vie bed and breakfast for 10 days. It is a block from the sound and 3 blocks from the beach. The owner and her son provide sailboats, kayaks, bicycles, hot tub and pool and you can use anything at the house. It is a beautiful 8 bedroom home with amazing views of the sunset. We had wine on the top deck with the owner and watched the sunset. They have a grill, fishing rods, a big beach cart, volleyball and bocci set we took to the beach a couple of times. Breakfast is just cereal, bagels, toast with juice and coffee but that was fine with us. Anne showed us lots of cool things to do every day, the lighthouse and the pea island preserve, where to buy a kite to fly on the beach and the best places to eat. We had a great time and thought it was well worth the drive. Will probably go back next summer... great value and she limits the # of people in the house so it did not seem crowded. There were 3 other couples there but we barely saw them... but they were nice. We know she is "picky" and she talked to us a lot before booking but hey it's her home soooo.....I hope it did not get hit by the hurricane to badly.

Room Tip: some have private baths some out in the hall. Private is more by about $20.you can rent an entire fl...
