“Ideal B&B!”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

What a lovely experience! From the beautiful (and large!) room, to the claw foot tub, to the awesome wine & appetizers....we were so impressed. And not to mention the bikes available for exploring the waterfront. Rick was an excellent host and made us a breakfast to die for! Although my husband and I love just down the road in Wilmington, we felt like we were worlds away. Cannot wait for our next visit!

Thank you so much for the wonderful review. It was a pleasure meeting you both. We are so glad you had such a great time. Nice to know you enjoyed the bicycles, too. We felt that was an important amenity for our guests. Southport is such a lovely city in which to ride. We love it ourselves. We are always thinking, "what would we want?" That's why we have the bikes, the Aveda hair products, afternoon wine & cheese and 24/7 coffee/tea station. It's so nice to know you enjoyed it.

Again, thanks so very much for choosing the Robert Ruark Inn and for taking the time to let us know of your experience. We hope to see you again one day and wish you all the very, very best.

Linda and Rick were some of the most hospitable and personable B&B owners. They were kind, helpful and able to guide their guests to some of the best in Southport. Bikes, tours and a beautiful home are simply part of your stay when a guest at the Robert Ruark. It's Southport at its finest.

This was our first visit to the Robert Ruark Inn, Southport. Rick and LInda are exceptional hosts - providing everything to make your stay perfect. From the availability of complimentary coffee, tea and water, snacks and wine provided early evening, an excellent breakfast and a very informative golf cart tour of the town. The antique furnishings were delightful. We stayed in Virginia's room on the first floor and found it to be very comfortable and quiet. The bathroom had an amazing walk-in shower and two basins and the inn was immaculately clean. If time permits visit The Southport Tea House for afternoon tea (run by Linda). Definitely a place we would like to return to in the future.

Room Tip: If stairs are a problem choose Virginia's room on the first floor.

Thank you so much for the beautiful review. It was such a pleasure meeting you both and welcoming you to the Robert Ruark Inn. Your review made my day! It is so nice to hear wonderful responses from our guests.

Rick loves to hear about the tours, too. He enjoys giving them. It's the history teacher in him. I think he's read some of the local history books two or three times just to make sure he didn't miss anything. The movie and TV filming stuff is fun, too.

Many thanks for your comments on the Southport Tea House, too. We just celebrated a month in operation and have already welcomed many visitors.

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. We hope to see you again one day soon!

All our very, very best,
Linda & Rick

A wonderful surprise, this tiny little town full of history and quaint picture postcard houses is a delight, but none more so that this immaculate and stunning Inn. Our host was friendly and informative and the Inn itself is superb. The furnishings, antiques and decor are breathtaking and our room was large , spotlessly clean and with the most amazing shower. Breakfast was at a communal table and laid out beautifully. Drinks and snack were on hand after a long day touring- no detail left out. A wonderful place to stay and be spoilt. Truly one of the best B&B's.

Room Tip: We stayed in Virginia', a large room with a separate bathroom. The bathroom has a double basin...

This was our first vist with Linda and Rick at the Robert Ruark Inn. And our expectations were exceeded! They have thought of every comfort imaginable. There was fresh fudge and brownies under the glass 'cake' cover every day, watermelon ice water on 90 degree days, wine and afternoon nibbles laid out daily, coffee pot on the table for early risers by 7:30, and even a canvas bag with their logo upon our arrival (our gift!) for our shopping ease and comfort. Always bottled water at the front door. Rockers on several of its porches. Breakfast was great and we had a great conversation with the others at the table.

We walked to 'Fishy Fishy' and 'Provisions' one way, then walked to the swings at the water front, the other way - an easy stroll to the antique stores (a block away). For those longer tours, we rolled out two bikes and had a cool ride through town. Take bug spray, however.

We had the larger Captain's room upstairs. Great kingsized bed, a door open to a small outside seating area, good TV and a double vanity in the bathroom. The clawtub shower was a 'big step' to get in and out of, but with a little assistance, the shorter people can do it.

We will go back again, for sure! Beautiful ... and great location in this great little town!

Room Tip: Our room was very cool upon arrival, but we adjusted the temperature at the gauge in the hallway.

The hosts provided transportation, a highly educated tour, amazing (large) breakfast and friendly conversation throughout our stay. Several seating areas on the property were perfect for morning, afternoon and evening conversation. The Inn's location is perfect in town. Just off the main path but walking distance anywhere you desire.

Our luxurious room (Virginia's Room) came with plenty of space, comfortable sitting and a phenomenal bathroom. The bathroom alone was worth the stay.

Southport is a city with plenty to experience nestled into a quaint, modern fairytale. It's quiet. It's historical. It will enchant you.

Thank you so much Kevin for the review. We really enjoyed meeting you both and are so happy that you enjoyed your stay and 'Virginia's Room.' It's nice to get feedback on all the outdoor space as well. When we purchased the Inn, that was one thing we felt was very important (providing numerous outdoor spaces/settings for our guests to enjoy). In fact, that is why we added the fire pit in the courtyard. We wanted to make sure guests could enjoy it all year even in the cooler months. We love to have the fire pit outside roaring and the inside fireplaces on as well in the cooler months.

We hope to see you again one day and wish you all the very, very best!

This is the greatest bed and breakfast I have stayed in anywhere in the world.

The rooms are luxurious and comfortable and the bathrooms are fantastically spacious. The entire inn is so beautifully and tastefully furnished with antique furnishings.

The breakfast is delicious and one of the beat breakfasts I have had at any guesthouse.

Finally, Rick and Linda are so kind and make you feel instantly welcome.

I could not recommend this inn more strongly.
