First of all, I must say that I have not stayed at this wonderful B&B but feel the need to write a review after my experience yesterday afternoon with the owner. Rick went out of his way for me, my wife and friends to give us a guided tour of this picture postcard town on a delightful Saturday afternoon. Having met him outside the town welcome centre, the four of us rode with Rick in his modified golf buggy to his historical house known as the Robert Ruark Inn. His place was immaculate but at the same time felt like a well-loved home. The rooms are very spacious and beautifully decorated with tasteful soft furnishings that incorporated the setting. We then were given a guided tour of the town, in between Rick checking in guests! I will say on behalf of our quartet that Rick's hospitality was such an added bonus and totally unexpected considering we were not registered guests and only on a day visit. This will definitely be the recommended place to stay for anyone I ever come in contact with that is looking for accommodation in Southport.

This was a small B&B, with only four rooms, but very homey. The hosts were wonderfully hospitable and gave us a tour of the town in a golf cart. We really appreciated the availability of coffee, snacks and other beverages during the day. The rooms were spotless and the bed was very comfortable. I would definitely recommend Robert Ruark Inn as a get away in charming Southport.

Thank you so much for the lovely review. We enjoy getting feedback and reviews as they really help guide us in all aspects of the Inn. Thank you, too, for letting us know you enjoyed the tour and all the beverages and treats we leave out. That, too, helps let us know it important.

It was wonderful having you as guests. We hope to see you again one day.
All our very best, Linda & Rick

This is definitely one of the best B & B's we have stayed in. The owners were very accommodating. The location, cleanliness, and food were second to none. We will most certainly schedule a return trip! Jim and Beth

Thank you so much Jim & Beth for the TripAdvisor review and the great feedback. We really enjoyed meeting you both and having you as guests of the Robert Ruark Inn! Rick really enjoyed talking with you about Robert Ruark. We kept wishing the weather would change for you. It was a bit soggy to say the least while you were here. At least it was sunny for your drive home. We will hope for lots of sunshine when you return one day.

All our very, very best,

My wife and I spent three nights here while checking out the Southport area. We are NOT fans of Bed & Breakfast style inns. But the owners at Robert Ruark Inn won us over, indeed! It's all about the simple things, and they don't miss the details. From fresh brewed coffee early in the morning, to providing information (and no cost tours) about the town, to daily breakfast that is different from the average hotel fare, to reading material in the front room near the cozy fireplace, to stunningly clean accommodations, to wine and crackers and treats (oh my) in the afternoon, to just flat out making you feel at home, they do NOT miss a beat here. The local area is fun to discover, and owner Rick's tour was a terrific addition to the discovery portion as he provided plenty of details about the "Hollywood of the East". The town is charming, no doubt, with plenty of cool places to eat and various little shops all about. We could have stayed a couple more days easily, but did not realize just how much we would love it in Southport, and at the Inn! Even if you don't usually stay at a Bed & Breakfast, you just might want to attempt a reservation here...and discover what a fine B&B can be like! This is a gem. Within hours you will realize you made the right choice, and wonder why you did not visit before. The Robert Ruark sits just a block from the water, which you can see when you stand in front of the place. Just outstanding. Super enjoy!

Room Tip: We spent one night in Robert's room and it was nice. Two nights in the Captain's room, and...

My husband and I drove to Wilmington, NC from Pinehurst for the annual February camellia show. What a nice show! After that we headed for Southport, a trip that ended up being about an hour. This was a nice town! I only wish that we had more time to meander through the shops and back streets....I wanted to visit more of the nice looking restaurants too! We ate at "Mr. P's" which had good seafood. The only problem was some trouble with slow service, which was also experienced by another couple that we met. Fortunately, we were in no hurry. It was ok just to "chill" in the restaurant. The fudge shop was marvelous! There are also several antique shops which are fun to see.
Of course, this review is about the inn, so let's get back to that. Linda and Rick are wonderful hosts. They serve a lovely afternoon snack. They also served a delicious breakfast with quiche, fruit, and sausage. Coffee is available all of the time. There is a parlor for reading; the sun enters that room just right, and you could sit for hours reading! the outside porch with the gas pit are great too....Sitting and rocking on the front porch could also be a fine past time! We stayed on the first floor with a gas fireplace, comfy king bed, and a huge shower. This room was lovely, but without carpet you will get some noise from the upstairs and the kitchen. It actually reminded me of my childhood and hearing my mother fixing breakfast in the morning, which made it ok, along with the delicious smells.
Rick's golf cart tour of the town was incredible! He truly knows the town where he lives, including the many shows and movies that have been filmed here (including Under the Dome), the history, and places to go. The trip would not have been complete without this tour. If I was to go back to Southport, which I plan to do, I would stay again at this clean, wonderful and historic home (maybe try the room upstairs with the balcony), meander the safe streets on foot or on the inn's bike(s), and would go to nearby Bald Head Island...take the ferry (no cars allowed), and would hike it! Stay away on July 4th though, unless you love crowds. Understand the whole area is booked a year in advance for the week long festivities.

Room Tip: One bedroom upstairs is very small.

My wife and I visited the Robert Ruark Inn for a long Valentine's Weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Rick and Linda are wonderful hosts. We enjoyed the Virginia Room on the first floor. It was spacious, beautifully furnished, and comfortable. It has a large bathroom and huge shower. Rick prepared us and the other guests delicious breakfasts, one day a blueberry strata, and the next a tasty quiche. Rick invited us on an informative, entertaining golf cart tour of Southport, pointing out the historical sites and set locations for all the movies filmed there. The Inn is conveniently located just a block from the shops on the main street in Southport. We highly recommend the Inn and stay in Southport, and look forward to our return visit to the Inn soon.

Room Tip: The Virginia Room is on the first floor, and has easy access.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts about the Inn and your time in Southport. We are pleased you had a nice time and would come back. We would love to see you both again, too. I will make a file note that you would prefer one of the other three rooms. Although Charlotte's Room has a private bath, many windows and vaulted ceiling it is smaller than our other three rooms. We make sure our bedding, furnishings and amenities are all the same but the room is smaller. Sometimes i feel like we have too much furniture in the room. I have to stay out of the antique stores. :)

Thank you so much for your time and for choosing the Robert Ruark Inn!
