We stayed in the Robert Ruark Inn in Southport while visiting family and in celebration of our wedding anniversary. My husband and I have been coming to this area for years and have never experienced the level of service and accomodations we received at this Inn. The innkeeper, David, felt like a member of our family when we left, and was a most gracious host. The location is perfect as you can walk to everything (restaurants, shops, waterfront). The restoration of this inn is breathtaking and the rooms and baths are wonderful. Breakfast was awesome both mornings we were there (I highly recommend the shrimp and grits). Even so, it was the friendly manner of David that truly stood out. We are looking forward to our next visit - we almost wrote a negative review so that it would be empty when we returned!

My new wife and I stayed at The Robert Ruark after our wedding. It was an amazing place to stay and David, the inn keeper was very accomodating. The rooms are beautiful! They have all the Victorian charm you could hope for but have been updated with modern ammenities. The food was also amazing! David laid out some snacks for us for after the wedding; his fudge is excellent. We had asked him to only prepare a light breakfast for us the next morning as we had a brunch with our families later that morning. He went a little overboard and we were glad he did! He made the best shrimp and grits I have ever tasted! We thought we were only going to sample the breakfast... well, we both cleaned our plates. The inn is incredible and David's hospitality puts it over the top!

What a beautiful inn and wonderful experience! We stayed at Robert Ruark Inn because we were attending a wedding in Southport. The Inn is newly renovated, so inn guests have the perfect blend between modern and comfortable amenities and a lavish Victorian world. This B&B is gorgeous and the service is top notch! David went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable - his personality and wonderful disposition certainly enhanced our experience. David also happens to be a fantastic chef, so breakfast is a real treat!

My boyfriend typically does not enjoy B&B's, and even he admitted that he had a wonderful time. I would encourage anyone visiting Southport to book a reservation here. You won't be disappointed!

If you would like to be transported back in time a hundred years to a lavish Victorian world, then you will love the Robert Ruark Inn. This totally gorgeous bed and breakfast is magnificent and the southern breakfast. is to die for. Furnished with loads of beautiful antiques and Victorian furnishings, my husband and I were totally awed by the beauty of this historic Inn. And we were totally taken in by what I would call the siren song of historic Southport, a sleepy but charming fishing village located where the Cape Fear River, Atlantic Ocean and Intracoastal waterway meet. As you can imagine there is alot of nautical activity-some kind of container ship, ferry or sailboat is always cruising by the waterfront.. The Inn is a very easy walk to the waterfront and is located in the historic area where there are tons of totally charming victorian cottages shaded by huge beautiful live oak trees that are hundreds of years old. It's fun just to walk or bike from the Inn down to the waterfront for a sunset sailboat cruise or to admire the boats in the Yacht Basin or the Southport Marina. You can also walk to several waterfront restaurants, and shops that feature wine, gifts, ice cream, antiques and women's boutique type items. Once you get to the Inn you really don't ever have to get in your car again but if you do want to there are alot of great golf courses nearby as well as Oak Island Beach. This Inn is a great spot for a quiet romantic weekend, a gorgeous wedding, or a totally luxurious Girls' Weekend Getaway!!!
