“Good Food, Great View with a pleasant breeze”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

We enjoyed our meals - Bacon-wrapped Scallops for me and the "Safe Haven" seafood platter for my husband. The crab cakes were not my favorite - just okay. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. The gentle breeze and the view added a nice touch.

“Don't leave Sourhport without dining at The Frying Pan!”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Great food, above excellent service and very patient with small children. No reservations or call ahead, so arrive early so you don't have to wait if you like Provisions, you'll love The Frying Pan!

“Great food, great location, great fun!”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Always busy, food is great, fast and waitstaff is wonderful! You are right on the ocean and can see it from any table! Family or a nice spot for couples! People watching, boat watching...just a great time!

“Too Hot”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Tried the Frying Pan last week, for the second time. While the food was average to atmosphere was horrendous. There was no air conditioning and the temperature inside the restaurant was in the 80's. My fish was somewhat overcooked, but edible. Considering my meal was priced at $25.00, I expected more.

“Pricey, but worth a second visit.”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

We noticed this restaurant last year during our annual vacation on Oak Island. It looked fairly new and we had planned to try it but ran out of time. This year we made it a point to visit it for at least one meal. The restaurant is built on high pilings and looks to be about 20 feet off the ground. It's a fair climb up the stairs but they have an elevator for those who can't take the stairs. The location and height provides guests with a really nice view of the boat traffic on the Cape Fear river and Intracoastal Waterway. The dining room's extra large window openings are covered by screens and we enjoyed a nice sea breeze while dining. The bar and kitchen are open to the dining room. There is also an open-air dining area. For dinner I ordered a cup of the Frying Pan chowder ($5.95) and the fish basket ($14.95) My wife also ordered the fish basket. The chowder, which according to the menu is made fresh each day, was excellent. It had a bit of heat that was just enough to get your attention. The fried fish basket was a disappointment. It was served in a small red basket which included an ample helping of French fries, a little container of coleslaw, a "sweet potato" biscuit and one small piece of fish. The fish was tender and moist but for $14.95 we expected more than just one small filet. Service was initially fast and friendly but our server returned only once after delivering our food and we had to ask another server for tea refills. Near the end of our meal the breeze picked up considerably and was quite cool. A jacket or sweater would have felt good. Notwithstanding the pricey fish dinner we decided the Frying Pan deserved a second visit and we plan to return in the fall during our next visit to Oak Island.
