“small but very interesting”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

We've been visiting Southport for years and this is the first time we've been there when the old jail was open. It's a self guided tour. You can see the patched hole in the wall where an escape attempt was made and prisoner drawings on the walls. The only thing that took away from it was they had repainted the cells and "walkabout" a strange gray color. I understand the need to do this because the salt air makes everything rust but it still looked strange to me. After visiting the jail you should take a walk around the charming town and feed the birds at the waterfront park. If it's low tide take a stroll along the little beach.
