Moonshine Creek Campground
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 24 May 2012

We can't say enough about our stay at Moonshine Creek. From my many calls to the front desk, to the impeccably maintained campground, everything was wonderful. We were going to arrive late and one of the staff (Dana) even offered her cell phone number in case we got lost or had trouble finding our camping cabin. That was really thoughtful! I wish I could remember everyone's names because each one was wonderful. We stayed in a camping cabin and couldn't have been happier - all the joys of camping without a tent. I was mostly impressed with how clean everything is. Moonshine Creek is, after all, a campground with dirt and trees and bugs, but somehow the restrooms, cabins and bathhouses were spotless. The staff really takes a lot of pride in maintaining the place. If you look at the campground map, you'll notice there are train tracks that run behind the campground. I was concerned about that but we only saw the train twice and it was during the day. The creek is loud and provides the best sleep ever. The location can't be beat - just a half hour from Asheville, and only a few miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway. There's a brand new WalMart in Waynesville just 10 minutes away if you need supplies. I'm sure it's busy there during the summer but for our stay (the weekend before Memorial Day), it was perfect. We are looking forward to our next visit!

Room Tip: We loved our camping cabin but every site (RV, tent, cabin) is a wonderful location. I'm sure th...

I traveled to Moonshine Creek for a brief vacation in October and was surprised to see a campground so well taken care of! Our tent site was right next to a beautiful creek, with a little deck with chairs that overlooked the creek. Tent sites are conveniently set apart from RV sites, which adds to the comfort of camping without modern-day distractions (RVs, televisions, etc.). The bath house and laundry facilities are impeccable, and the staff is warm and inviting. They even carried our firewood to our site when we arrived, and told us some about the elms under which we camped-- they were some not yet touched by the elm disease which has spread through the Smokey Mountains. This campground also offers camping cottages, which we might try if we visit again. An added bonus: dogs are welcomed at the campground as long as you clean up after them, and folks there are respectful towards your furry friends!

Room Tip: Tent sites are pretty close together, so ask for one that's set apart or one which is not adjace...

A quiet campground in the cool shade with a rambling creek that is close to the national park, Asheville, rafting, hiking, waterfalls and the Blue Ridge parkway. The owners and staff make you feel right at home and are very friendly and accomodating. The campground is kept very clean including the bathrooms and bath/laundry house. We stay in a campsite but our kids have visited and stayed in the cottage on the creek and loved it so much they are returning to visit again this October. Whether you are tent camping, have a big rig or anything in between, this is the place! We would not consider any other campgound and love returning again and again hopefully for many years to come. .

Moonshine Creek Campground is a beautiful place set in the Smoky mountains on a rambling mountain creek. The setting is very natural with lot's of large trees and most of the sites back right up to the creek. You can hear the water from everywhere in the place and the grounds and bathhouse are kept extremely clean. This place is for people that like to get away and feel like they are camping, everyone has a fire at their site and the owners are really friendly and very good about making sure everyone is happy and enforcing quite time. The location is excellent just a few minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking, fishing, waterfalls, and also close to Waynesville, Asheville, and Cherokee. We really enjoyed our stay and it will be hard to camp anywhere else now that we have found Moonshine Creek!!
