Description: CARO-Mi Lodge was established in 1945 at Highway 25 and Greenville Street outside of Saluda, NC. The original owners, the Mehaffeys, opened CARO-Mi Lodge during the months of June, July, and August, and worked the remainder of the year for the Florida East Coast Railroad in Miami, FL. Hence, the name "CARO-Mi" comes from the words "Carolina" and "Miami." Due to the Tennessee Valley Authority condemning much of the area in Polk and Henderson counties around the original location, CARO-Mi opened at its current location in 1957. The Mehaffeys retired from the railroad company and operated CARO-Mi full time. The guest rooms and cabins were gone and CARO-Mi Lodge became CARO-Mi Dining Room. The Mehaffeys retired from CARO-Mi in 1963 and since then the restaurant has changed ownership three times. The Stafford family has owned and operated the restaurant since 1990. We strive for each and every guest to have an enjoyable and memorable experience and leave with all their hunger needs fully satisfied. We invite you to enjoy Mother Nature's ambiance of the Pacolet River while relaxing in a rocking chair on our covered porch. Whether it is our Carolina country ham (cut and processed in our kitchen), fried fresh chicken, or our delectable mountain trout, among many other options, we're sure you'll enjoy and can't wait to come back for another meal. CARO-Mi is located in the heart of the Pacolet Valley, 3 miles outside of Tryon, NC, at 3231 U.S. Highway 176, Tryon, NC 28782. Reservations are not required but are recommended.

“LOVE the Food---Owners Not So Much!!”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

The absolute BEST country chicken livers around! The marinated slaw and macaroni salad is to die for. The old fogies that own the place are rude, hateful, and downright mean! This little place has been a family favorite for over 25 years. We drive over 45 mins one way 6-8 times a year. We come for the FOOD--not the hospitality. Several of the waitresses seem stressed from time to time; I would imagine they have a hard work environment due to the personality of the owners.
You'll receive great food, not promising anything else.

“LOCAL SECRET”
Reviewed 2 April 2014

My wife and I stayed at a B&B in Tryon, NC. It appeared that the Dining options were limited to Japanese, BBQ, or Pizza. Then we discovered the Local Dining Secret.

Three miles from the Gas Station at 3231 US 176 West is Caro-MI . It ii Country Dining at its finest .Entrees of Fried Chicken Chicken Livers, Fresh Trout, Flounder, or Shrimp. Each Entrée is served Family style with Green Beans, Cole Slaw and Baked Candied Apples. Did I mention Fresh Home Made Biscuits ?

CARO-MI opens at 5:30 PM Wed-Sat. Go early to beat the rush. It is very clean and unique. You will walk beneath a covered Bridge to the Restaurant. You will not be disappointed. And you will leave with money in your pocket.

“Caro-Mi Dining in NC”
Reviewed 4 November 2013

Just like having dinner at someone's home. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting, the wait staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is real down home country cooking. If you go, don't miss the sauteed chicken livers, served as both an appetizer and an entree. They are to die for. The owners are ever present, and check with everyone to make sure they are enjoying their meal. When we left, I asked Charles if he would share the recipe for the chicken livers, and, with a smile, he said to me, "You'll have to buy the place to find out"!!

“Disappopinted--New Owners?”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

Had Visited This Restarant Several Years Ago. Everthing Was Great, Food, Service, Ambiance, Especially The Covered bridge over the River, To the Entrance of The Lodge. I Had been Brought Here For A Family Gathering.
180 Degrees This Time, Total Turn-a-bout. My Wife And Cousin Got The Scollops And My Wife Could Not Eat Them, My Cousin Ate His Because He Was Trying To Be Curtious. They Were Fried in Oil and Were Dry And Rubbery. The "Ham What Am", Their Main Draw, Comes With Grits And Red Eye Gravy. The Red Eye Gravy Was More Like Burnt Coffee, Than When You Deglaze The Pan That The Counrty Ham Was Fried In. The Slaw & Macaroni Salad Was Not The Best Either. We Will Not Be Going Back UnTil Someone I Know Goes And Give Me a Good Reveiw, Or The Place Has New Owners

“Always Consistent”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

Great family style dining. The chicken livers and trout are excellent. The macaroni salad and slaw they serve for your first course is nothing short of awesome. I could make a meal from just that. If you like country ham, grits and redeye gravy, then this is your place. They serve hot biscuits, green beans and spiced apples to complete the family style meal. Empty your bowls and they are whisked away and replaced with fresh. The atmosphere is quaint. Big front porch with rockers that is situated on a creek bed. After dinner you can sit and rock and listen to the water rushing over the rocks. I've been going there since I was a very young girl and the food and service has not changed one iota down through the years.
