“Ambiance, not food”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

We were attracted to the inn by the description of "fine dining" and pictures of a warm, cozy dining room. The ambiance was all we expected, but the food was at best average. They ran out of salad--didn't even try to offer anything else--how can a restaurant run out of salad?!? We were there last Friday, but had an entirely different experience than the previous reviewer. With such a beautiful, cozy atmosphere, they should actually deliver fine dining, not mediocre fare.

“Lovely surprise in the NC mountains”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

On a recent Friday night my wife and I had an occasion to visit the Old Stone Inn Mountain Lodge and Restaurant. We went at the suggestion of dear friends who live in Waynesville, NC. While the restaurant was crowded, we had a reservation and were seated immediately. This got us off to an excellent start. There was a fire in the large stone fireplace and with the chill in the autumn air, it was perfect...not too big but nice and cozy.

There was live music which could have been overwhelming in the small confines of the Inn but it was lovely and a nice touch to the evening.

Dinner was simply marvelous. My Caesar Salad with anchovies. (Nice that they had the anchovies. Many restaurants do not.) My wife had Filet Mignon which was not only cooked to perfection but seasoned nicely as well. My fresh, farm raised trout was presented beautifully, fileted and with the top layer of skin removed.

The bottle of Campus Oaks Zin that we shared was moderately priced and delightful. We passed on dessert as our hosts for the weekend had dessert at their home where we stayed.

The wait staff was courteous, polite and efficient without being intrusive during dinner with old friends we had not seen in a while.

If you ever find yourself in western North Carolina, do yourself a favor and have dinner at the Old Stone Inn. It is rustic, charming and delightful.

“A unique experience”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

This restaurant has changed hands a couple of times since I've lived here and I have heard some poor reviews. But when I've been there both with husband and friends, we've had a fantastic experience. If you go when it's cold outside, they have a roaring fire going. Very romantic. Since this is also an Inn, you can peek into some room that are upstairs along with a private bar. The wine menu is superb. We took some business clients there and they were totally blown away! Nice romantic spot. If you get bad service or whatever, please try again.

“Not as Good as Before”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

Every restaurant can have a bad night. In over 6 years we have always had fabulous enjoyable meals. Our favorite over the years had been the fresh trout but on the most recent visit, the trout was cold when served and the accompanying vegetable sides were not up to par. We will give them another chance next month.
