Owner description: All Saints’ Tudeley is the only church in the world* to have all its twelve windows decorated by the great Russian artist Marc Chagall. The east window at Tudeley is a memorial tribute to Sarah d'Avigdor-Goldsmid who died aged just 21 in a sailing accident off Rye. Sarah was the daughter of Sir Henry and Lady d'Avigdor-Goldsmid; the family then lived at the fine Jacobean house Somerhill which is situated nearby.

Tiny church, completely fitted with glass windows by Chagall. If you can, visit in winter during daylight when the snow amplifies the light without strong sunlight disturbing the colors. But in the summer, it is equally impressive. Explanatory leaflets are availably in the church. This is a truly exceptional experience.

“Must See for Marc Chagall fans: Memorial Stain glass windows in a tiny hamlet church”
Reviewed 5 June 2013

In our recent visit to Paris and England we were gifted with a trip to a small hamlet church in Tudeley near Tonbridge, England. The only reason we were able to find the church is that we were visiting a friend who grew up nearby. We entered the unlocked church and found the most beautiful windows Chagall completed in memory of a young girl, Sarah, who had drowned.

If you are in the area and a lover of art, this is a must see. It is Chagall at his best.
