“A good first impression not sustained.”

This is a bit of toney Hampton with lots of lipstick on it. Everything about the accommodations is fine. The major drawback is the hot breakfast. This hotel has adopted what must be a new cost cutting strategy of providing microwavable sandwiches as the hot food items. Whoever instituted this idea should be made to eat these "things" every day for a month. Labeling them as food stretches credibility. In addition, there is only one microwave to serve the entire guest list ,so this causes a major logjam when several people need to use it. And they aren't exactly giving these rooms away, so loosen up those purse strings a tad, Conrad.

Thank you very much for your comments about the Hampton Inn & Suites Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach. We are very pleased you found the accommodations acceptable - your comments are greatly appreciated. I am happy to report that our breakfast is changing this week. We had been awaiting final approval by the local authorities of our new kitchen equipment and have just received the proper permit to provide the Hampton On the House® Hot Breakfast. I hope you will visit us on your next trip to Wilmington to try out our new menu.

This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in.

The hotel's lobby is beautiful. The rooms are very clean. The mattress was SO comfortable and we got a great night's sleep both nights that we were there. The breakfast is incredible!!! There was so much food to choose from. The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly.

I also liked their attempts to be "green" by having shampoo/conditioner/soap dispensers in the shower instead of small plastic bottles (that hardly gave you any of the product anyway!)

Overall, this was an excellent stay and my husband and I already plan to stay there again for our next visit to Wilmington.

This is one of the nicest Hampton Inns that I have stayed in. It is very clean and the rooms were decorated very well. A great location, it is just a mile or two from the beach and was very reasonably priced. I checked the other Hampton Inns in Wilmington and this one was priced as low if not lower than the others. The staff was very helpful. Ms. Scott Dixon was a pleasure to deal with. She always smiled and was very helpful. She provided several good recommendations on places to eat.

The hotel staff was great and knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed especially the complimentary dinners and breakfasts during our stay. We found everyone to be friendly and willing to please. We loved sitting in front of the fireplace and reminiscing about our childhood. Many summers were spent at Wrightsville Beach as children. We are now 67 years and 71 years young at heart!

My husband and I stayed at this HI for three nights. We missed the location the first time around. If you aren't sure exactly where it is located call the hotel before you go. There must be strict zoning laws as there are no signs indicating the hotel. The hotel is in a quiet location a little off of the main road.

The front desk staff is helpful, intelligent and friendly. The lobby/eating area is more upmarket than other Hampton Inns. There is a lovely two sided fireplace and even a bar. The breakfast is your standard HI breakfast. The woman who looks after the area does a good job. She keeps it clean and well stocked. There is an exercise room and a pool (closed for the season). The grounds are nice.

The hallways are clean and well lit. The rooms were quiet. Large flat screen tv. Free WIFI.

Based on the above we would have rated the hotel 4, perhaps even 5 stars but since most of the time is spent in the room (to sleep) we gave a TA rating of 3 for the following reasons:

The room and bathroom were on the small size for a HI. The bed was okay (a bit soft for me). Neither of us thought the pillows were comfortable. The comforter was very lumpy and needed replacing. The towels were on the thin side. The Neutrogena products were good. There was blue toothpaste on the walls by the sink (neither my husband nor I use toothpaste with blue in it). The area around the sink could have been cleaner.

We both felt that overall housekeeping (and the bedclothes) could use some improvement. We have been staying in Hampton Inns for years and they are our hotel of choice hence we are comparing this experience to other HI stays.

This hotel is particularly hard to find after dark. However, once there, Dalton at the front desk was great. Unusual to have a bar in the lobby of a Hampton Inn, but there was a fun crowd watching a football game. Overall hotel was in very good shape. Room was totally clean, just smelled a bit funny. Bathroom was supplied with Neutrogena products. Beds were amazing!

We spent two nights while in Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach to watch the Beach to Battleship triathlon. Our first impressions were that the room was not up to typical Hampton Inn standards: it was a bit small and did not have a refrigerator or microwave. But it was comfortable enough and the hotel was definitely clean. The big test came when my young daughter woke up and would not get back to sleep around 2:30 AM. I knew that a little warm milk would probably do the trick, so I went to the front desk and asked if I could have a bit of milk and use the breakfast area's microwave to warm it up a bit. The woman at the desk was extremely helpful and understanding and quickly opened up the breakfast area for me. The down side was when another employee came by and seemed to assume I had broken into the breakfast area and essentially accused me of doing so. I explained the situation and rather than wishing me well getting my daughter back to sleep, he made a snide and crude comment about how he hoped other guests wouldn't be blaming him if my daughter woke them up. Nice... I suppose it's a good thing that the hotel schedules that gentleman to work in the middle of the night when he will have minimal interaction with guests.

The only other complaint was not necessarily the hotel's fault but I think they could have done more about it. When we were carrying down bags and loading up the car, a "Jeff Gordon" white van had parked right next to the curb and was blocking the walkway from the hotel's side entrance to the parking lot. I mentioned it to the front desk, but 45 minutes later when we finally checked out, the van was still sitting there and there was no evidence that anyone had loaded anything into it. While the blame for the inconvenience falls on the people who inconsiderately parked it there, it seems that the hotel staff could have made a better effort to find the owner and ask them to move into a parking spot (there were plenty nearby).

Other than that, we were happy with the other features of the hotel. The breakfasts were good, the wireless Internet was reliable. And other than the one employee, the staff was all very friendly and helpful.
