Hilton Wilmington Riverside
Ranked #19 of 45 Hotels in Wilmington
Reviewed 24 August 2014

This hotel is very average even by Hilton standards. No hotel lounge/bar area, (Ruth's Chris has taken over just off lobby), staff is very indifferent, rooms are basic and need some TLC, views are great and location for exploring downtown terrific. I had a number of problems and contacted front desk several times but "manager" was always too busy to talk...... pretty much sums up attitude of entire staff.

Room Tip: River view rooms are worth the slight extra cost.

Great hotel to stay at if you want to play downtown. Just a walk to anywhere including lots of great restaurants and bars. The hotel is an older Hilton but it's well kept and reasonably priced. Breakfast on the bottom floor is a bit crowded but very good. The hotel has a great pool and the Battleship is in any view if you ask for a river view....personally, I'd ask for the city view.

Room Tip: Ask fro the City view, river view is just that - a view of the river and a boat.

My room was overlooking the river. I could see the Battleship museum, boats in the harbor, and a lovely boardwalk. The rooms very very clean and well stocked, the staff was very friendly and accomodating, and they have a Ruth Chris restaurant on site.

Room Tip: Rooms do not have microwave or refrigerator, but refrigerators are available upon request.

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay with us. We're incredibly sorry that our north tower chiller went out during your stay. Though we became aware of the issue immediately and all available hands began working on it, it proved a catastrophic failure of one of our chiller systems that required a special technician and a new unit that we are still working on completely replacing. We apologize we had to move you to a new room to ensure your comfort. We hope to have the opportunity to host you again to show you how wonderful of a facility we truly are. Thank you again.

This was my first visit to Wilmington and was attending a convention located at this hotel along with my daughter. That being said, I reserved a suite for our stay. The hotel has a great location on the river and is very convenient to all major city attractions. The suite itself was hardly a suite - it was a typical hotel room for most high end hotels especially ones in the Hilton chain. Unfortunately, the price was for a suite - not a regular room! The hotel is a bit dated and definitely needs upgrading. That being said, the staff were wonderful and very helpful. Another small occurrence was lack of housekeeping service for one day. The hotel did compensate me for this oversight.

Room Tip: You will need a suite for more room - ask for one with a river view.

The rooms here were just awful. The smell in our room was musty and disgusting. The staff is just plain AWFUL!!!!!!!! And the rooms dated with old furniture and fixtures. If this place was not on the river it would have no guests for what they charge. I did some research and this hotel is owned by the Sotherly Group. They are currently in a lawsuit trying to prevent another riverfront hotel from being built! They should take their lawsuit money and update this entire hotel! Including getting rid of the deadwood staff.
I guess they know a new hotel will hurt them given the state they are in. Just a really bad experience for staying in a Hotel with the Hilton name. Apparently, the dollar is all that matters to those in charge. Never again!

Room Tip: Go somewhere else.

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay and I'm incredibly disappointed to hear you did not enjoy the service of our staff. This is a very uncommon assertion, as our team holds hospitality above all else, and I apologize you did not receive the quality of service that you deserve. If you have any specific examples or details, I would greatly appreciate you bringing them to my attention so we can amend any problems for the benefit of our future guests. Please feel free to contact me directly at michael.keeler@hilton.com. Thank you again for reviewing your stay.

Can't say enough good things about the staff. The Valet/Bell Hops were fabulously helpful even with my wifes 5 bags of food and such.

The room was super comfortable with a fantastic view of the river and the USS North Carolina! Not many hotels can boast of a battleship view like this.

The location is convenient for walking tours of the river area and the historical areas of Wilmington. Lots of shops and restaurants close by. But why would you leave for dinner when you have a Ruth Chris Steakhouse right in the lobby.

Only two complaints. The shower was a bit dated with a slow drain. The bathroom could have used a modern treatment.

The other is the thongs of folks in the lobby. They serve drinks at the coffee stand in the lobby and it was crazy all night Friday with half inebriated brides maids wandering around being loud and obnoxious. I suppose this is why I usually avoid tourist coastal towns in Summer.

Will likely stay again but maybe in late fall.

Room Tip: Riverside is super sunny so if you are a late sleeper maybe the street side is best.

Thank you for the fabulous review of your recent stay! We do have a wonderful location along the Cape Fear River, as well as an accommodating team and comfortable, clean facilities. Though we are an older Hilton, we are constantly working on projects to keep us on the cutting edge. I am confident if you return later this year, you will be pleasantly surprised to find some of your suggestions have been heard. We look forward to welcoming you back to Historic Downtown Wilmington!
