“A Lovely Place, But ...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2012

We thought the hotel was in a great location, convenient to shopping and dining in the historic district. The room was comfortable and beautiful. We loved the hardwood floors and four-poster bed! The staff member who welcomed us was very pleasant and helpful, BUT the next morning our coffee was delivered by a surly and somewhat threatening young woman. It was shocking and disappointing after such an otherwise wonderful stay. When we went down to breakfast, we discovered that she was working at the front desk and also serving as hostess for the restaurant. She was just as unwelcoming in that role. We would consider another stay at the Hotel Tarrymore, but hope that we don't meet up with that young person again!

We recently spent a weekend in Wilmington and stayed at the hotel Tarrymore. The rooms are charming and have everything that you need. The kitchen and the layout of the room were perfect for traveling with a 1 year old. The floors are absolutely beautiful and the rooms are decorated very nicely, they made me feel at home. The hotel is in perfect walking distance to town. I can’t say enough about the service we received, it was absolutely WONDERFUL! The staff was so friendly and did anything possible to make our stay enjoyable. We will definitely stay there next time we are in Wilmington! Also, if you get the chance make sure to check out the restaurant below, Press 102. We had breakfast there and it was amazing! I had an omelet with asparagus and goat cheese…. and have been craving it ever since!

My husband and I stayed here while attending a wedding in downtown Wilmington. It is true this hotel is within walking distance of many attractions. However, the room was extremely noisy. We could hear motorcycles and other traffic outside our unit all night. Noise from other guests in adjacent units, furniture being moved across the wooden floors, cupboards being slammed, and who knows what else they were doing kept us up unitl 2:45 am. Poor insulation and construction design makes sleeping here close to impossible. When I reported the problems to management in the morning, they were sympathetic but blamed me for not getting dressed and coming down to lobby to report problems.at 2 am. Obviously, I kept hoping the offenders would just be quiet and go to bed. I also advised the hotel I was writing my experiences on TripAdvisor. I should also mention we had no lamp in the "living area", just an overhead fan/light and an oven light. The only thing available to hold our suitcases were the kitchen counters; There was no bedroom chest, just a nightstand between the beds and those drawers appeared broken and out of alignment.

Room Tip: The only unit that might be quieter is the 2 bedroom on the side of the building. Large signs are p...

I typically rely on kitchen amenities to keep the cost of traveling down, and the 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit with a kitchen fits the bill perfectly. We only needed one room and the living space provided an extra area to hang out. The room was updated and tidy, and the location is excellent for exploring downtown. Two issues to be aware of: the noisy night life of downtown did seep into our room until about midnight, and the hotel does not provide parking (which is available very nearby for $7/day). I recommend this property, though, because the benefits outweigh these!

We have stayed here several times when it was still owned by the Wilmingtonian across the street. The location is fantastic, just a couple blocks away from the heart of downtown, so it has always been a favorite. When we arrived in Wilmington last week, we discovered that this building had been sold and is now the Hotel Tarrymore. The suites had been completely remodeled and there is now a wonderful restaurant on the first floor. The hostess gave us our pick of rooms and very patiently showed us 4 (at this point, we were just being nosy). There is one room with very bright skylights over the bed. We avoided this one since I like to sleep in while on vacation. In the end, we chose the room that adjoined to a common area since we had friends staying across the street and we felt this would give us more room.
There are two downsides- a lack of free parking and no elevators. The lack of elevators was only a pain during check in and check out since the rooms are only one floor up. We were informed of the lack of parking BEFORE we made a reservation, and we're told of our options (there is a $5/day lot next door). We were there during the very busy July 4th holiday and that was the only day that the lot was even close to being full (we chose to keep our car parked that day, and explored downtown on foot instead).
Bottom line, it's a quaint place with plenty of room, in a great location. We will definitely stay there the next time we visit Wilmington!

What a great place! We had an issue at check in just beware the website does not list the correct rooms, so call to make sure you are getting what u booked. We booked a king but where given a queen. The hotel fixed the issue and upgrade our room to a two need room with a king in it! Very very clean and cozy a great place! Location is great with in walking distance to the down town bars and restaurant. Perfect spot for a getaway
