Very disappointed. My mother lives in Wilmington close to the Beau Rivage and I have stayed there once about 15 years ago...wasn't impressed with it then and even more so this time. My entire family was staying for the weekend due to a party my mother was having so we had 6 rooms. Yes the rooms are large but haven't been updated since the day the place was built! Worn carpets, old mattresses that broke our backs and hard as rock foam pillows that gave us all stiff necks. We had bottom level rooms and were awakened by what sounded like the men's gymnastic team above our heads (no sound proofing at all in walls or ceiling). A friend of mine staying next door said she had a dog living above her. The room's furniture was old and worn and loaded with dust...you could actually see it built up on the arms of the chairs. The facility has no ice makers, you need to go to the bar if you want ice and the rooms had no coffee makers even though they have a mini fridge and microwave. The sleeper sofa was a joke...falling apart...we could barely get the thing back in the sofa. In a nut shell, it was the most uncomfortable stay I have ever had...I couldn't wait to check out and for certain will never stay there again!

Thank you for your review. We have just taken over the property as the new management company May 2014 and are addressing many of the items you spoke about. The property is older and we are working with the current owners to upgrade the rooms. We have upgraded the linen, pillows, towels, tvs, microwaves and we hope to have a new furniture package completed by the end of the year. We have also implemented new cleaning procedures from all aspects of the property. Again, thank you for the review and we hope you will give us another chance sometime in the near future. I took my whole family here. Its location is prime and the cost is very affordable. The rooms were great and we had a view of the driving range from the back porch. A friend came and met us and they accomodated them as well ( he had too much to drink). They were very courtous and we enjoyed our stay a ton. Place was awesome and I was glad to see they exceeded their expectations from some of the reviews out here.

Room Tip: Request a room with a flat screen TV as they are in the process of upgrading.

My husband and I decided to take off early on Friday and go toward the beach for a weekend. We landed on Beau Rivage due to its pricing and last minute accommodations. I've read the reviews before going and then again after returning from our weekend. We stayed on the 2nd floor. And yes, as all the others commented the rooms are outdated. But for me, who cares. Was it clean? Yes very. Did I feel comfortable? Yes, very. Am I there to sit in my room and watch the TV? Not at all, I could have done that at home. I met new friends at the pool. I met new friends at the Bar. This is not a seniors place, it's a place for all ages and I met them all. Its a little community with it's old plantation charm. The food is good - it's pub food, not gourmet. The drinks are good, the prices are good and the staff is fun. Am I going back? Absolutely. If your the type of person looking for the Grand Ritz experience - don't go here. If your one that looks for the experience, fun friendly atmosphere - I suggest it.

Room Tip: Stay on the 2nd floor.

First of all, we stayed here for multiple days and not once was our floor vacuumed. With a trip to the beach, our kids got some sand on the floors, which was still there when we checked out. Why do they have the sprinkler system around the lodge to start at 8 AM? Tried to sit on the back patio in the morning and have coffee, but got showered! Also was a pain when loading stuff to go home. It would be so simple to change the sprinkler time. After spending time seeing the sights during the day, wanting to come back to a dip in the pool, but the pool closes at 7 PM and so do the tennis courts. Also wanted to play 9 holes at around 6 PM and the pro shop allowed it but really frowned. This is a place for senior golfers who play early and go to bed early. Not a family place. The Veranda grill is one guy slaving behind a counter making sandwiches, getting drinks and working the register. He was a nice guy, but this is not a restaurant as is touted. As other reviewers have stated, the furniture is outdated, the couch sags, the bedding is circa 1980 Motel 6 and do not stay on the first floor; because sleep will not happen if someone is in the room above you. The golf course is in excellent shape, but if there are hackers in front of you, be prepared for a 6 hour round. This course is not for the casual player, it is difficult. One last thing, the air conditioners are right outside your patio, so the patio is useless.

Thank you for taking time to write a review. We just took over as the new management company in May 2014 and reading your review was tough but fair. We have made improvements to the hotel and are slowly working with the owners to find ways to improve the property within their budget. We have upgraded easy things such as linens, tvs, pillows and cleaning procedures. We are working with several furniture vendors and hope to have an upgraded package sometime by the end of this year. I have noticed noise complaints and we are evaluating how we can improve the sound quality of the hotel as this is an older property. Although it's hard to receive negative feedback on the property it does help us to determine how we can minimize or eliminate the issues that the property has faces. Again, thank you for the review and we hope on your next visit in town you will give us another chance. Barry Eagle, Owner Crown Hotel & Travel Mgt.

Unplanned, last minute stay - in need of a hotel that allows a small dog. We were not here to play golf, so I can not comment on the course. Staff was very accomodating - excellent service. Rooms are dated and in need of a makeover with below average materials and furnishings. Common areas and main building are nice with an old world type of charm. I would rate the room as an average on the comfort scale, but very clean and extremely large - about 900 sq feet with seperate living and sleeping areas.

Beau Rivage also has a public golf course on its grounds and we played the course on 7/20/12.The course total yardage is quite long and the distance between holes is also very long.No walking this course! The pro shop and gounds staff were friendly and helpful throughout the day and we thoroughly enjoyed our game of 18 holes. The fairways are amazing and the greens were fast....even with the dry conditions all areas were well kept. This course is laid out among the resort and houses bordering the fairways and greens.Reasonably priced for a day of golf.Note:we did not stay at the resort itself but in nearby Carolina Beach.
