“Wonderful B&B”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

We had a wonderful stay and Steven and Paula are the friendliest hosts around! The property is beautiful and the hammock is the best place in town to relax and unwind. Breakfast is amazing and the bedside snacks are home-made by Paula. Great location, comfortable beds and wonderful owner make this my favorite B&B in all of Wilmington! The dog, Sparky is a sweetie.

We spent a week-end at this wonderful Bed and Breakfast. The owners Paula and Steven were so warm and accommodating. We had our large Bouvier with us and he had such a great time too.Paula made the best breakfast ever! The Cottage is on a beautiful street and convient to walking to the river walk, and so many other restaurants. A wonderful stay with or without your fury companion. mbg

We loved our stay and Steven and Paula are very sweet. They are fun to talk to and our very down to earth! We loved our room (Jane). It was perfect for a great Anniversary night away. The house is well maintained and we loved the hammock on the front porch. Downtown Wilmington is only a short walk away. Breakfast was great and fresh.
We will come back again when we are back in town:)

We were very happy with our stay. The B&B is approximately 4 blocks from downtown and everything is within walking distance. The owners were helpful and friendly. We loved hearing about the area and all of their awesome recommendations for things to do and see in the area.

The innkeepers - Paula & Steven were delightful. The provided dining recommendations that we heeded two separate nights, and the food was fabulous as advertised. They also provided a recommendation regarding an antiques destination, the Ivy Cottage, which was likewise excellent. The breakfasts were not the standard fare one might expect but very creative and tasty! All in all, we couldn't have enjoyed a better time, and our table side conversations with our hosts were extremely relaxed & quite enjoyable. The gardens surrounding the Camellia Cottage represent Steven's outlet for relaxation, and they are a beautiful, natural refuge for guests.

Room Tip: All rooms appeared inviting. We stayed in the ground floor suite, and it was expansive with an incr...

Recently my wife and I decided to be spontaneous and make a midweek kid-free getaway. We decided to check the Internet for bed and breakfasts in Wilmington and found a vacancy at the Camellia Cottage Bed and Breakfast. Obviously it was divine guidance because we couldn't have found a better place to make our getaway. The hosts, Paula and Steve (and Sparky, their dog), went above and beyond to insure we had a wonderful time. Besides being great conversationalists these two were on hand to offer advice about restaurants, directions to local interests, and knew much about the general history of old historic Wilmington. The Camellia Cottage is a large 3 story home that is registered with the Wilmington Historic Foundation and has a history all its own. Toss in many of the owners personal collectables and you have a cozy dwelling that seems to make time stand still. I swear it felt like we were staying with some long lost, recently discovered cousins who had invited us into their home. The breakfasts were exotic and different to the palate and the company we shared around the dining table was interesting to say the least. We simply had a wonderful time and are currently looking for any reason to make our way back to Wilmington and to the Camellia Cottage B & B.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Tuscany Room and loved the low lit charm of this large room. It faces east so this...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Once home to artist Henry MacMillan, The Camellia Cottage is a high-peaked, Queen Anne shingle house featuring four guest rooms. A long veranda, painted by a local artist, provides a view of the lush garden of azaleas, magnolias, ferns and camellias. Here, great food, gracious service and a friendly atmosphere make for a relaxing guest experience. Greet each morning with coffee at your door and a sumptuous breakfast of fruit, homemade pastries and entree. Paula’s stint as a hotel pastry chef ensures a delightful dining experience. The Crane Suite features an ornate, metal bed, carved fireplace and vibrant color. Formerly the sun room, the bath and dressing area is filled with lush tropical plants. Henry’s Room, featuring a canopy bed and fireplace, reflects the stateliness found in two of Henry’s paintings hanging in the house. Jane’s Room is named after Henry’s mother and features floral designs and vintage photos complementing the four-post bed and fireplace. In the Tuscany Room, the golden glow of the walls and large windows make you think you’re in an Italian villa. Enjoy the fireplace from the whimsical iron bed or soak in the claw-foot tub with a glass of Chianti. ... more   less
