“Elegant Elegance”

This elegant 1854 mansion in Wilmington's downtown historic district was lovingly restored in the 1990s by its owners, Chuck and Dennis. It lives up to its name as there are four balcony porches to relax on plus a raised patio overlooking the garden. The location is excellent, within easy walking distance of the abundant upscale and casual restaurants and shops in the small downtown of this historic port city on the Cape Fear River. However, what really inspires us to return for a stay is the comfort and elegance of the interior and the warmth and charm of the hosts. The living room, library and dining room are very inviting. The superbly creative breakfasts and proffered wine in the afternoon are a plus too. Chuck is very entertaining, informative and friendly and Dennis was kind enough to play his ancestral 19th century music box for us. Ample parking on the residential street. One warning - you do have steep staircases to climb with your luggage.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 3, which is well appointed but the queen size matress is too soft for us (we rolle...

Our trip to The Verandas was a surprise Christmas from my husband. We stayed there for three nights. The property is beautiful, the ambiance from the greeting from Chuck who is one of the owners to his awesome breakfasts and warm conversation in the kitchen made us feel at home right away.Chuck was knowledgeable and a wonderful host without being over bearing or pretentious as we have found in other B&B's that we have stayed at. We felt very very at home. Our room was clean, super comfortable, well appointed and welcoming. Leaving felt more like leaving home after a long absence than leaving a place that is in business to make money. We highly recommend the Verandas.

Room Tip: Room one was perfect for us, but we peeked in the other rooms that we unoccupied (the doors were ope...

We spent two nights here a couple of weeks back and were delighted with the place. Our room on the top (third) floor was very large, quiet and clean--although it was a bit of a shlep getting up there (especially with bags). Located in a nice neighborhood with plenty of street parking, the B&B is quite convenient to Wilmington restaurants and sights. The very congenial hosts serve a fine breakfast and have done an excellent job of decorating their establishment.

From a first impression: a warm, friendly greeting from Innkeeper/Owner, Chuck, to wonderfully
decorated rooms, to the best breakfast; everything was top notch at this beautiful, eclectic
property. Every room is decorated with treasures from all over the World; we especially
enjoyed the unique "masculine" room 7; a quiet haven. Owners Chuck and Dennis are
very knowledgeable about antiques, local attractions and which Wilmington waterfront
restaurants to try. Their recommendations were spot on. We enjoyed the quiet ambience
at night, loved the nightcap offerings of cookies, great wine and sherry! The Verandas is
a quiet oasis in an up and coming, attractive city. We will visit again, and again.

First time at the Verandas for a recent weekend in Wilmington. Location was very nice. Located in downtown Wilmington, but in a very quiet area. Easy to walk to restaurants and shopping, etc. Historic building, but updated very nicely. And for such an old building, I was very surprised how quiet the building was even when it was fully occupied. Breakfasts were very good, nice sized portions, very pleasant servers. Host was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely return if I'm back in Wilmington.

We really enjoyed the facilities and the service was top drawer. In addition, building architecture and history was great. Our disappointment was with the over priced rooms and the unremarkable breakfasts. In addition, the area menus were outdated. We will not be returning.

Room Tip: All rooms are very nice. Do AVOID the antique area (New Castle Art and Antique district on Castle b...

A beautifully restored southern mansion with charm and class. Upscale and comfy at the same time. Our host-and owner-Denis, greeted us on the porch and made us feel welcome right away. We were given a tour of the inn and great insider info about the best places to eat, shop, or just take in the sights of Wilmington. Take time time relax on the 'veranda' with a nice glass of wine! Ahhhhhh! Breakfast was delicious, homemade, and served with a story and a smile! French pressed coffee, juices, fresh fruit and cream, souffle`, sausage!
The hospitality was wonderful. The inn was very cleaned. The beds were comfortable with nice linens. The location was very convenient. There wasn't anything NOT to love about this place! It definitely has earned its 4 Diamond standing!
