The Verandas is truly one of the most exceptional B&Bs I have ever been to.
Positives:
-Several common areas to relax including large living room and several porches accessible to all guests
-Modern, large bathrooms with soaking tubs
-Great breakfasts with either seating at large elegant table or table for two for more private dining
-The most gracious, knowledgeable and helpful innkeeper-Chuck Pennington
-Close proximity to riverwalk

I am hard pressed to come up with any negatives but in the interest of providing a balanced review, as with many B&Bs the inn is not handicapped accessible, you will need to carry your own luggage up at least one flight of stairs and find off-street parking.

This is a great place to either have as a base to tour sights in Wilmington or just relax and be pampered.

One thing people need to consider is how long have the owners owned and run their B&B and how long have they been on the top of Tripadvisor list? Chuck &Dennis have owned and run this B&B for 17 years(the avg I believe is 3 yrs) and I believe been at top of this list for all or most of these years!!! Really what more needs to be said. We stayed for 4 nights in 2 rooms both were exceptional. The breakfast was wonderful. The staff was dedicated to customer satisfaction. Chuck is a tremendous resource about area. This 150+ yr old home is well maintain and located in historic district. The house gardens are breathtaking. Stay here!!! DougP

My husband and I had a great time at an overnight visit last month -- we only wished we could have stayed longer! We enjoyed our chats with the hosts Chuck and Dennis, who are warm and welcoming. They have proudly restored their home to its original grandeur. The breakfast was very good and our spacious room was very clean -- loved the elegant bed linens! -- and had an oversized tub. The location is superb -- just a few blocks from town and the boardwalk.

The Verandas has been painstakingly restored by proprietors Chuck and Dennis in great detail -
with comfort in mind. After more than a dozen visits we have always enjoyed the property itself,
the proximity to the continually upgraded Wilmington waterfront area and the best breakfast in
town. Along with family during Thanksgiving - our annual stay at The Verandas is always a
highlight. It's simply a super comfortable base camp for exploring this best kept secret region
of the Carolinas.

Room Tip: There's not a bad room in the house. All have easy access to the lower or upper verandahs.

Owners Chuck and Dennis exceeded our expectations in this beautifully restored bed and breakfast. No details are overlooked, including perfectly restored guest rooms, excellent breakfast, superb local restaurant suggestions, and generous hospitality. You quickly discover that running this property is a real "labor-of-love" for the owners. A real bonus- - - all is within walking distance to the Wilmington waterfront board walk!

We stayed for three nights in early April at The Verandas. This is the third B&B we have tried in Wilmington and by far this was the best experience. Breakfast was excellent. Chuck is a great host. I especially enjoyed my morning coffee in the sitting room adjacent to the dining area. Beds were very comfortable. Oversize tub and individual cooling was great. The art and antique furnishings were quite unique. The neighborhoods around the Inn are filled with great historic homes. Dining within walking distance was first class. I would definitely recommend this Inn to anyone wanting to stay in downtown, historic Wilimington

With visiting friends from Ireland, I stayed at The Verandas in early April. We cannot say enough good things about this B&B. The standards were so high; the welcome so warm; the food so delicious; the rooms so comfortable. It was an experience that rivaled the best of stays we have had at Relais et Chateaux hotels in Europe. I will be back soon with my husband; my Irish friends say The Verandas alone would bring them back to North Carolina. Thank you, Chuck!
