Sometimes, there is nothing remarkable to share and that's a good thing. The menu at the Mellow Mushroom included standard fare plus a whole lot of imaginative combinations. The kid's menu satisfied the 6-year-old in the group (french toast cheese pizza with a side of fresh apple slices) and I was happy to share the "Red Skin Potato Pie" which forever proves that a red sauce is not de rigueur when it comes to delicious pizza. I was a designated driver so I didn't get to try one of their craft beers but clearly they had good choices, judging by the pleased customers at other tables.
The decor is decidedly casual. The location cannot be beat. For those who are not familiar with Winston-Salem, Fourth Street is the main attraction. Mellow Mushroom is across the street from The Stevens Center and within walking distance of the downtown hotels.
