We just had the morning to visit so we walked through the arboretum, gardens, among the buildings and had nice stroller trails the whole time. Great spots for photo ops and even saw a family doing a photo shoot on the lawn in front of the capitol. Didn't get inside for a tour - maybe next time.

The North Dakota State Capitol was constructed on a tight budget during the 1930s after the
first state capitol was destroyed by fire. It doesn't look particularly interesting from the outside
but a guided tour will tell you what North Dakota is all about.

The views from the top floor are excellent and the tour guide was very knowledgable. There
is no admission fee and parking is free. Take the tour.

This is one of the only capitol buildings in the USA without a dome. It was completed in 1934, in the midst of the great Depression, after the capitol burned down in 1930. It is constructed of incredible stonework, metal and woods, many of which are simply not available anymore.
It is part of a park-like ground that has a number of government buildings, a museum, playground and the governor's residence.
Although not reviewed separately, because I have not been there for several years, you should make every effort to see the heritage museum (free admission) along with the capitol building.
In the capitol building, you will be able to see an artifact of other times, a product of populist idealism as ND emerged from hard times, along with the rest of the country.
