“off the beaten track”
Reviewed 11 February 2013

We were taken to this restaurant by our hotel taxi driver and we weren't disappointed. The owner was very helpful in advising us what to order and it was cooked beautifully.

“Excellent little place”
Reviewed 6 September 2012

Our team from UCSF (California) visited TaiTong in September of 2012 while on a business trip to Penang. The curry prawn was lovely - and unique and the kailan with salty fish was one of the best I have had in Malaysia. The steamed fish was good, but we probably chose the wrong cooking style.
But best of all was the owner - he was real fun and talkative.
This little place is really worth a visit if you are in Penang. A hidden little gem.

“Tourist trap”
Reviewed 26 May 2011

This review is from somebody from Spain, a regular seafood eater and a fan of good Asian food.
The Claypot bean curd is only served in a claypot but not cooked in it as it should. The mixed veggies have surprisingly exactly the same sauce. The waitress keeped insisting she will serve us non spicy food even though we said we did like chili. Then she served us the wrong kind of crab. She did have a hard time when listening to customers, instead she guessed all the time what we wanted. The chili crab had the same sauce as the previous dishes, but with some tasteless chili not hot at all. The crab itself was OK.
We paid rm60 for all. If you are used to rip off resorts for westerners this might be worth for you. We would rather eat at any of the other places in town.

“The best restaurant of my travels (upto 2011)”
Reviewed 9 March 2011

Now this is an amazing restaurant verifying the fact that Penang is an island for people who love their food.
The experience was simply amazing.
Try the king prawns with Mongolian sauce an out of this world flavour or the huge crabs with the pepper sauce -mouthwatering.
Located just 200 meters from the main entrance of the National Park and opposite the bus terminal for the bus coming from Georgetown (not the terminal for the buses going to Georgetown)

“Hidden Gem near the national park”
Reviewed 31 October 2010

We stumbled accross this wonderful small restaurant after getting off a local bus to the national park which holds the lighthouse which can be seen from any of the tourist beaches in Penang. The food is wonderful and much less expensive than in other parts of Penang. The owner made some sugestions as to what we should try. The seafood was freshly caught and came from the pier just metres away. Its not fancy but clean and the staff are very welcoming. The food is mostly seafood with a real Malay taste. We even went back to have our last "fix" of this wonderful food on the way to the airport. A detour but well worth it.
