We have moved from the Midlands to Montgomery just over a year ago and found this pub after recommendations from the locals and it has become our favourite. The new landlord ensures a lovely warm welcome every visit along with all the friendly locals and excellent bar staff and waiters. It has become a home from home throughout the year with the log fire blazing away in the winter months. The food is consistently tasty with an ever changing menu and an interesting variety of all three courses and yummy puddings! The music nights are very popular and great fun. Everyone can be assured of having a great evening out here if friendly chat, a cosy atmosphere and lovely food is your thing.

We turned up last night out of the blue, and what a cheerful welcome we had - friendly staff, fire blazing and a really nice atmosphere. We couldn't fault our meals: the portions were generous, there were plenty of vegetables and lots of choice on the menu, to include some delicious-sounding puddings. The Lion Hotel is only two or three minutes' drive from our house in Montgomery, so we'll definitely be going again, and we've already recommended it to friends.

We call at this lovely pub several times a year and always get 'a good feed' with plenty of chips and veg, well presented and good atmosphere. A roaring log fire is always a great welcome along with the staff and locals. New Landlord is a great guy with oodles of enthusiasm and treats us like old friends even if we haven't been in for a while, nothing is too much trouble. Good value for money...we will be back! ;-)

Tucked away a mile off the A483 between welshpool & Newtown is this fantastic old pub!
A warm friendly welcome awaits, along with a fine selection of beers and wines.
The food is much better than your normal country pub fair with a price to suit every pocket. Recommended has to be one of the two steaks on the menu, which i believe are sourced from the local butcher in Welshpool! Our main meals were served with a dish of 4 different veg and we were also given a nice sized dish of chips and new potatoes where we could put exactly what we liked on the plate.
The Landlord and his Staff were very clear & helpfull and made for a relaxed dining experience. A drink amongst the friendly locals at the bar in front of the roaring open fire made for an enjoyable evening!
I really would reccomend the little trip off the main road to The Lion Hotel in Caerhowel!

I must visit this restaurant at least 5 times a year with friends or family. The food is your usual pub menu and this is what I like most about it, this is the place to go when you want a good pub meal and not be disappointed.

The prices are very reasonable with the quality of food and service at a good standard that you would expect from a pub restaurant. The ambience is of a traditional country pub and should you visit during the colder months you are bound to find an open roaring fire which is always nice to sit by either before or after your meal. For those that like a choice of ales there is usually a few guest ales on offer too.

I always look forward to going back.

6 of us had an evening meal here having walked the Offas Dyke path from Bishops Castle. We were all very impressed by the quality and freshness of the food, four of us had fillet steak, they were all cooked perfectly and mine was one of the best if not the best steaks I have ever tasted. The locals beers were excellent as was the service and atmosphere. Fantastic place to eat!
