The Knife & Cleaver

What a smashing 'find'. In a tiny quiet village, opposite a beautiful church, and within 15 minutes of so many 'attractions' - from heritage sites like Woburn to the superb shopping in Milton Keynes. A lovely pub that's been renovated with real care and attention. An excellent restaurant or dinner with great food, a decent wine list and on the following day, a slap-up breakfast. A resident multilingual parrot. Terrific staff who maintained smiles even on a very busy Saturday night. A warm welcome for our small dog who had her own little garden to run in and a very comfortable modern bedroom to stay in while we had dinner. And owners who make you feel like you're visiting their home for the weekend. We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: Smaller (but perfectly lovely) rooms are closer to the doggy garden, larger more sumptous rooms are...

Recently visited the restaurant with 6 other friends for a meal. From the moment we arrived we were struck by the attention to detail and friendly attitude of the staff, particularly the 2 owners who were in attendance in the background making sure everything worked like clockwork. The service and quality of food (particularly the garlic mushrooms hidden away on the vegetarian section) would grace any establishment. Despite the place being very busy, the area where we were seated was a small alcove which added to the intimacy of the meal. The place was spotless and it was obvious that a great deal of hard work had gone into making the establishment as good as it was. Even a friendly parrot to talk to if you wanted. Will definitely be re-visiting in the not too distant future

What a little gem..
Stayed for one night, room was warm, clean and modern.
The rooms are away from the pub so there was no noise and some have small gardens for pets, for a small fee of £5!!
Dinner (ribs) and breakfast (full English) were superb and very friendly and attentive staff..
I would happily stay here again if in the area- thank you!

We stayed here for 2 nights in October as we were attending a wedding nearby. A lovely b&b. Modern furnishings, rooms done to a good standard, tea making facilities. As this is attached to a nice county pub and restaurant we took the opportunity to eat here in the pub the night we arrived and the pub food was lovely. My only hesitation was that they wrote down your card details on a piece of card when we arrived as guarantee and was kept in a box would rather they scanned it as they do in all modern hotels as this doesn't seem to be a very secure way of doing things! Apart from that a lovely stay and great breakfast the next morning too.

Took my mum for a lunchtime birthday meal on a Sunday, the pub is cosy and the staff very good. The menu was limited and expensive and the portions small. Bill came to £150 for 8 people, 2 of which were kids, we didnt have starters and not everyone had a dessert, one round of drinks..... oh and wobbly tables which is very annoying

We stayed here on a groupon. 2 course lunch was included in price with a drink. Excellent quality and staff efficient and friendly. Rooms spotlessly clean, good size and warm. Gardens would be lovely on a nice day. We also had an evening snack here too which was just as good.

What let this hotel down was breakfast, we decided not to upgrade to a cooked having had 2 big meals the day before. Advertised was a continental breakfast which we thought sounded good, meats, cheeses, rolls, croissants, fruit etc. would be just what we needed. What we actually got was a glass of fruit juice, a choice of cereal or fruit! Toast and a hot drink. My friend asked for the fruit choice and got a whole banana on a plate! I had weetabix and toast, asked for honey but there was none. I have this type of breakfast at home every day, i do expect a little bit more special when in a hotel. It would have got 5 stars without this.

Room Tip: They have dog rooms and a dog run for those travelling with pets.
