The Knife & Cleaver
Reviewed 17 July 2014

We stayed here for the night of my birthday en route to the F1 at Silverstone. We had one of the larger rooms and it was really comfortable. The decor and furnishings were good quality and lovely linens, towels and toiletries.

The beer garden and the outdoor seating area at the front of the pub with a view of the beautiful village church are very smart and an enjoyable place to relax. Good beer and wine and really good Irish coffee - no squirty cream in sight!!!

The staff were very hard working, friendly and polite and made us feel very welcome.

The evening meal was delicious, with great presentation. For mains we shared the pork platter and it was exceedingly tasty. A pork lovers dream! Breakfast was delicious too with a good selection and plenty of tea and coffee.

Graham was extremely courteous over an oversight and we thank him very much for resolving it in such a generous fashion.

We had intended to visit Bletchley Park on the way back from the Grand Prix but were too tired. That gives us a good excuse to return to the K and C in September!

The only reason the pub didn't get 5 stars was the bathroom was very dark and my husband struggled to shave. A very minor point and do not let it put you off going. Go you will enjoy your stay.

After a long trip from the Isle of Man we were greeted by Graham and Terry, who were both very friendly and helpful. Our room was spotless and the decor was modern yet cosy. After a soak in the huge tub it was time to eat. We had booked in for a 2 course meal which was so good we had to have a dessert! Throughout the meal the staff were friendly and attentive without being over bearing. After our meal we sat in the courtyard over looking a lovely garden for a final night cap. Breakfast the following day was good especially the bacon.
My husband and I both agreed that we would definately visit again, in fact on our homeward journey we stopped in again for lunch and yet again the food was amazing. I reccomend the portabello porker! The next time we are in the area we will be back! Graham and Terry be warned!

Great little find in a lovely location.
Good:
Rooms clean and modern.
Staff fantastic, efficient and friendly.
Beer garden ideal.
Room rate fair.

Average:
They could improve breakfast by using better produce.

Bad.
Food and beer expensive.
The church bell ringing in the night.

This is an honest review, and I really like the place and would definitely return. I hope the owner takes the points on board, and reviews the prices, because if they did, this place could become one of the best B and B in England.

Thank you very much for your comments, FYI we are cheaper than the local mainstream, nationally advertised on TV B&B and our pricing policy is in line with local competition.
Our produce comes from a highly respected local award winning supplier, great constancy and of course they have a very good sustainable record, they are multi award winning & have an excellent reputation.
I f you would like to contact me I will give you their details.
We are very proud of our 14th century grade 1 listed church, it has an amazing history.
In fact we pride ourselves and know that we are very lucky to have such a beautiful historical monument directly opposite us and the whole village are so proud of our fully operational bells.
Like big ben and other famous monuments, still up and running after 700+years, nearly as old as me!!
Thanks for the correspondence,
From
Graham, Terry and all the Team at the Knife and Cleaver and not forgetting our wonderful church as well.
Who knows Quasimodo may still be up there!!

We stayed there for 2 nights in June 2014 to celebrate a family birthday. We had a bar snack the first night & a 3 course dinner for 11 people on the Saturday in the private dining room. The food both nights was excellent - no complaints whatsoever. The chef is relatively new there but is definitely on the right track & very enthusiastic about his menus. Terry & Graham made us very welcome & it was a perfect place for dogs too. We will definitely be going back!!

I stayed here for 3 nights and would definitely return. The staff were great and very accommodating to all my needs! I was especially impressed with the kitchen......I have a fructose malabsorption and I had plenty of option for all my breakfasts and dinners. They made my meals from scratch and knew what I was talking about so I felt safe ordering and eating here. Would highly recommend this establishment and the pleasant town surrounding it! The accommodation was was very good and looks nice and modern. The shower was great and I couldn't tell if I had neighbours! Also, the wifi was very reliable.
If you are looking for a place to stay down this neck of the woods, the knife and cleaver will not disappoint.....

Cheers
Phil
