The Lodge is very interesting with the historic old buildings so carefully renovated and decorated. We found it very comfortable and the food was very good. The town of Ibo is a picture of the past, really interesting to visit and to meet the local people. The boat trips to the surrounding islands were really nice as well. There are also several great dive and snorkeling sites careful guided by the dive instructor.

Most important of all, the staff was really kind and professional, always doing their best to keep our stay perfect.

In overall, we liked very much, there is nothing we can say against the lodge or our stay.

However, visitors should pay attention that the Ibo Island doesn't have a beach. The boat trips to the nearest sand bank or other surrounding islands are very nice, but they take some time, they depend on the tides, and the range of the boat is relatively short.

Dear Filipe T
Wonderful to read that you found the lodge so carefully renovated – we hoped for that when we did the renovation. Also very happy you rated our food highly, and our activities and Lorrayne our dive instructor.

Ibo’s best kept secret is her sand bank beach to which we go to each day and is included in our rate. It takes on average between 15 and 30 minutes to get there depending on conditions, and which boat we use. Most of our guests rate it as the highlight of their stay - particularly sailing back into the ancient harbor of Ibo and imagining what it was once like.. We are delighted you liked your stay so much and thank you for posting.

Warmest IBO greetings, Fiona Record, Owner, Ibo Island Lodge.

Can't rate Ibo Island Lodge highly enough. It really is a stunning place to stay, and the staff are wonderful.

I guess it's hard to go too far wrong in such an idyllic, exotic location. We had spent a few days on the mainland before arriving without electricity, flushing toilets, and other creature comforts (which was a fun experience in itself) - which made Ibo Island Lodge seemed all the more luxurious, as it offers all of the above.

The chef was kind enough to vary the menu to accommodate me, as a vegetarian (which will be much appreciated by other vego travellers out there) - the food was consistently amazing, especially the salads served in giant sea shells, scones for breakfast, and home-made gnocchi.

The lodge was completely overflowing with bougainvillea - there were flower petals all over the bed when we arrived, which was very pretty. It's home to an impressive green gramophone, along with a brilliant assortment of other colonial relics. There's plenty of opportunity to find peace and privacy in one of the 3 large leafy gardens, and the rooftop terrace gives a beautiful view of the sun setting over the mangroves.

Besides diving and snorkelling among the coral with dolphins, turtles, and a rainbow of colourful fish - with Lorrayne, who was super-friendly and helpful, both for beginners (like me) as well as more experienced divers (like my partner) - the flight between Ibo and Pemba airport is heaps of fun. We discovered a great silversmith in one of the old forts, who is definitely worth visiting for anyone who likes unique jewellery.

We travelled in June, and the weather was perfect. Hope to visit again some day.

Fantastic setting, beautifully decorated, peaceful gardens and really friendly and quality service. The diving was also really superb - untouched coral reefs so beautiful they make you squeal through your regulator - and led by a great dive instructor Lorrayne.

We had a fantastic time - thanks to everyone at Ibo Island Lodge

My family and I took a gamble on going to the little island of Ibo in the Quirimbas archipelago, Mozambique. The service we recieved from Rob and his team was amazing and we wanted for nothing.

The lodge is very well maintained, the rooms are magnificient and the views breath taking. Meal locations were very varied from lunch on a remote sand bank to a romantic candle lit dinner on the beach.

We recommend, the day trip to the sand bank on the dhow, the historic tour which is really interesting and the kayaking through the mangroves.

The highlight of out trip was definitely the diving. Lorrayne and her team at Dive Quirmbas are absolutely fantastic. They catered for our every need and the diving its self was fantastic. And a bonus we snorkeled with the resident pod of bottlenose dolphins.

Room Tip: Try get a sea facing rooms - the sunsets are fantastic!

The rooms are fantastic. The views are world class. The people who run the Ibo Island Lodge are doing a great thing for the island and the people who live there. It's nice to know that a great portion of your money is going to support the locals. But, most of all, it is just a wonderful place to stay, to indulge yourself, and to enjoy the views from the rooftop restaurant. A totally wonderful experience.

And if you get the chance to do the dhow safari,it will change your life for the better.

Room Tip: Eat every meal on at the rooftop restaurant.
