From winter snow, from north of Poland to be 7 days in a bit of paradise and heaven in Kosgoda Beach Ressort.
I have occasion to save a hundred turtles eggs by moving them to hatchery before beach dogs eat them. Can free dogs on the beach eat turtles eggs?
Beach boys are around hotel and if you are not stupid you can negotiate good price for services like tripe, tuk tuk, shopping, etc.
If you are not hotel guest you cannot enter to hotel from the beach side (in reply to Jon2512 and his "stay away" post)
That little needs for improvement in the hotels rooms are charming as local culture signs (dear Elizabeth A)

Room Tip: Take a room on second floor

We tried to get in but some guard refused us entry. Is this really a hotel? When we left our driver asked a local what was going on and. We heard that the owner doesn't pay bills and is worried people will come in and take his goods as payment for unpaid bills

our travel agent booked this hotel 3+ stars. We checked the photos on the hotel's webstie and it looked beautiful. We anticipated our beach resort after 8 days of traveling around Sri Lanka. The hotel has potential. It is a beautiful site. However, the owners have not invested in/maintained the hotel and it is falling into ruins. The bathroom plumbing is rusted and corroded, the AC makes noise but doesn't cool, the electricity seems to be off during the day, the buffet breakfast is poor. The staff is helpful and kind and try to make the best of a bad situation. We were extremely disappointed and have notified our travel agent not to use this hotel again.

I would rate this with NO STAR at all for the horrible experience one can have in Sri Lanka.
The place looked so beautiful when we arrived at 6-7pm when there was still some sunlight. However, the impression tumbled like an avalanche when we tried to check-in. It seemed like such a huge scam!

Booking (paid via booking.com) was made the day before for 2 rooms, each charged at USD120. We had booked this resort out of desperation because the others were fully booked. The reception told us that they are fully booked and there are no records of our booking (similar to Shanaaz S case), which I think is an obvious lie!

We wanted to speak to the Manager or at least someone of a higher authority, hence the supervisor came to speak to us. His attitude is bad and has no manners. After learning about the situation, he told us that there's nothing they can do and told us to go away. I'm appalled by his behavior. What kind of customer service is this? Or even basic manners one can have?!! My friends (Sri Lankans) spoke to the supervisor in Sinhalese all the while so I would expect them to understand what was going on.

Feeling dejected and tired after a long day, we just wanted a refund and head off. The supervisor agreed for a refund but went back on his words later on. His reason being: "Why should I be refunding for rooms you are not staying in?". Ridiculous.

So, we requested to speak to the Manager/Owner. Amazingly, they claimed to not know the name of their Manager and do not have the mobile number of their Manager. How is this possible? If it is true, this is due to poor management within the resort.

Not knowing what we can do, we walked around the resort for a bit to search for the Manager. When night falls, it looked like a ghost town with run down buildings and empty offices with a pathetic computer that was switched off. The phone line wasn't even functoning properly. There's a few tourists in the restaurant and that was it.

All thanks to tripadvisor and two helpful staffs (thank goodness for them), we managed to find out about the existence of Piero, the owner. We questioned the front desk staffs and they admitted to know about Piero. I am speechless. We wanted them to contact Piero but they did nothing. Hoping very much for us to leave as soon as possible. A kind soul told us that Piero was away at the beach and will be back in 10 minutes. Hence, we waited for him to be back.

While waiting, we met 2 Russian travellers staying in the resort. They mentioned that there was no electricity and hot water on the first day of arrival. The electricity issue was resolved on the second day but there's still no hot water. In addition, we found out that Piero would entertain Caucasians and Americans only. They felt discriminated. Personally, I find this totally unacceptable.

Peiro finally appeared. My friend didn't know who was Piero until someone hinted her. When she realised, Piero had ran away and gone into hiding. Apparently, someone tipped him off.

I confronted the supervisor once again, in English, but all he did was snug and grin. I asked him about Piero and he said that he's not around.

After more than 2 hours of drama, we realised that we could do nothing at the moment and left the place.

Information gathered from hotels around the region. It seems like Kosgoda Beach Resort has been around for 80 years and it used to be a very popular and good resort. Their glorious days came to a pitfall after changing hands to another management company. Bills were not paid and they are notorious in the region.

We will take action against this resort and heartfelt sympathy to those who are just making a living at the resort. This scam should not go on any further and preventive measures will need to be taken.

Room Tip: don't even stay in their

I just got back from amemorable trip to Sri Lanka, and this hotel was by far the worst managed establishment that I had come across.

We arrived at 4pm and after being told by reception that they had no record of our (paid-up) booking, we kept waiting for 4 hours for a room to become available. The Manager and Director of the resort were too busy entertaining their family and friends who had spent New Year's eve at the resort, to bother with us, so it was left up to the recpetionist to run around and try to sort out a room for us. Eventually we were given a room which was hastily cleaned and over-run with mosquito's, ants and geckos. After refusing to take the room, we were 'upgraded' to a duplex located at the far end of the resort.

Thinking that this would be better, we soon found out that it was not, and that most of the amenities did not function in the room or bathroom. Toilet lights did not work, showers were old and run-down, hot water ran out too quickly, No phones, room service, or contact with the reception desk.
The Mananger ( Piero) is a joke.... always sitting in the restuarant in shorts and t-shirt.... extremely unprofessional, and will promise you everything in 10 mins, but never delivers. Took him almost 2 days to arrange for an internet dongle so that we could have acces to e-mail.... Didn't even bother to great guests checking in or out, or even attend to any issues.

A positive is that the beach outside the resort is really wonderful although it could do with a clean-up.

everything about this resort is a scam, don't waste money on it like we did!!!!!!

Room Tip: stay away from this place

We quickly realised that our visit at this run down hotel was going to be poor. No one greeted us or offered to take our luggage. All the shops on site had obviously realised that the hotel was going down the pan and sold up and left empty. The rooms seemed ok when we first got there but some of the windows had warped so couldn't be closed at all. The shower in the bathroom was old and broken and just sprayed everywhere. We didn't get any hot/warm water at all no matter what time of day. Even when we informed the reception nothing was done, even a simple thing like changing a light bulb was clearly too much to ask. We paid $200 a night and was expecting a service and stay to match that over priced rate. The lunch was a joke of fish and chips that took over an hour to get to our table with a restaurant that was serving just 4 tables. We had paid for full board and one minute they said we had a choice from the Al la carte menu then said we could only have fish and chips. The main dinner was terrible and I decided not to eat that night.
There were tiles missing on the bottom of pool, which left sharp edges to step on or a child to step on.
It just felt like they had done everything as cheap as possible and cut costs everywhere they could and charged as much as they could get away with!

Even after we complained nothing really changed and as soon as we voiced our concerns and dissatisfaction all the, so called manager could say was "No Discount as such". There was no apology in the least and he just informed us that the owner had left for the day and couldn't speak to him.

We've stayed in 2500 rps a night hotels which had better facilities, better service and better food than this place.

Oh, and they don't have wifi either. Literally, every expense they could have cut they have.

Do not stay here.

Room Tip: I think whatever room you choose will have something wrong in it.
