“Not so bad...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 July 2013

Reading the other reviews, I would say the conditions have improved. A big plus for the hardworking restaurant and kitchen staff and a minus for the arrogant young ladies at the Reception desk. You definetly have to ask for a double superior room and pray for a good one, as it might seem impossible to change it - if you meet the receptionists I have mentioned about. No free internet, unfortunately, sometimes noisy German young people, enough crowded at the swimming pool, otherwise, good food, nice rooms, real common sense. The resort offers the chance to visit by bus, in a cheap manner, many other interesting places, such as Nessebar - a MUST, Sveti Vlas, Elenite, Pomorie or Burgas.

Just stayed 10 nights at Baikal and not much positive to say. Stayed in the older part of hotel and the rooms are minimal, maybe the newer section is better. Curtains are paper thin and do not block the rising sun very well, be prepared for bright and hot mornings if you are facing east. TV is maybe 15". AC worked well. Pool is ok, limited sun chairs though.

Horrible staff, rude, inattentive and full BS. No manners or friendliness at all, except for the bellman but he works for tips. The currency exchange guy is good, he wont rip you off. Food is decent and the common areas are well kept. Location is pretty good.

Definitely not a 3 star like hotels in other countries. Rooms are not cleaned daily, contrary to hotel information. Since the area is a sandy beach community it would be nice for housekeeping to actually use a vacuum or broom when they mind the floors. Shower had black mold; drain barely worked resulting in WC floods during showers. Sheets changed every 5 days, towels every 3. Reality is that our sheets and towels were changed once. This changes depending on which staff member you ask, you think they would know that answer. In room hotel info binder clearly states, "rooms cleaned daily", definitely not the case.

Asked the counter staff to have rooms cleaned better and was met with the typical Bulgarian “well this is not a 5 star hotel” and “it’s not possible that your room was not properly cleaned” basically anything to avoid actually addressing the issue and helping a guest. Would not let us speak to manager but were able to get her the next day and she was ruder and more useless than her staff. Restaurant staff were ok during meals but once breakfast ends at 10 they turn into rude robots mindlessly scooping up plates and cups if you are finished or not. You are supposed to hand in your room key upon leaving the hotel for the day, trying to get it back is frustrating because they just stare at you. Basically you need to be rude and say your room number in order for them to understand you. Stopped handing in the key on day 3 as I could not stand dealing with them.

No greetings, how are you, thank you etc., not once. Not even a parting word upon check out. The staff here would not last in the real world where manners and helpfulness are normal.

If you don’t really care about cleanliness it is for you, if you have children forget it. Will never stay here again and advise all visitors to avoid this place. They don’t care if you come back and it shows.

It's also loud due to location but not really their fault, the loud drunken morons in the halls at 0400 is their fault however.

Additionally, Globtour booked us the trip and said the hotel was clean for kids since that was our main concern. The in town Globtour rep was basically useless if you need help to communicate with the inept staff. Maybe use another agency. They conveniently forgot to mention the towel and sheet change schedules.
