“Mercury hotel please don't go there”
Reviewed 25 June 2013

Just returned from a 10 day AI holiday at this hotel,on arriving at midnight was impressed by the rooms very spacious & clean rooms and that's where it ends.

Hotel over run with greedy Russians & very rude children food terrible, pool area never cleaned once sun beds broken & filthy complained many times to hotel manager, balkan rep even to the Balkan office located at the Globus hotel.

Nothing done to rectify any of the problems have received letter back from Darren McAuley this morning from Balkans who informed me I should of filled a form in at the hotel, what he means is tough we had your monies, my hubby and I have travelled to Sunny Beach for 8 yrs never again, The Russians have taken over the place.

We visited the Tiara beach as we have Bulgarians friends who work there if the Mercury is supposed to be a 4 star the Tiara beach must be a 7 star no comparison ....

Room Tip: Dont go ....

Pro :
- clean rooms
- the staff was very nice and helpful ( we changed the room because it didn't had a duble bed, there were two beds sticked toghether)
- animation staff for the children
- close to the beach (5 min)
- close to a good coffee shop ( americano - mall hotel royal)
- clean pool

What we didn' t like:
- the food it's not the best, i mean cooked dishes. I ate a lot of salads and cheese, fresh fruits and vegetables because it tasted better :) and healthy . This was my choice but others ate french fries or some kind of pizza. I seen kids eating ice cream all the time but i didn't tasted it to tell you if it's good. The cakes tasted cheep and artificial.
- it's a good hotel for families with kids: animation by the pool, playground, sweets and food if you have all inclusive
- the beer is light :) the only thing that tasted ok, i didn't like the juices\soda
- internet (free) was available only in the lobby, i wished to have access also from our room

So...as a couple it was ok...but for sure i can't rate this hotel with 4 stars, let's say 3 stars. There were a lot of kids that were jumping in the water or running by the pool so that was very disturbing :) but if you have a large family mabe it's fun.

Stayed at Hotel Mercury on 24th May until 7th June 2013. We arrived in early hours and when we went to our room we found two plates of bread, ham, cheese and salad, we was surprised to see this with it being around 2 in the morning, but the food must have been out for awhile as it wasn't fresh at all.

Good things about our stay....

The hotel was very clear, our room was cleaned everyday, new towels, bed changed etc. Staff were helpful and always had a smile on their face. Hotel was a stones throw away from the beach and everything else going on.

Our only problem with the hotel was the food. It was shocking! Wasn't much choice and only pictures of which animal the meat was. Nothing was ever warm. We ate cold pizza and chips must of the time but you get what you pay for I guess.....

Oh and before I forget the pool was FREEZING! Even after hours of red hot sun the pool was still freezing. Kids loved it but you not many adults lasted more than 2 minutes in the pool. Bit of a let down as that someone go on holiday for.

My self and boyfriend and 10 year old son have just returned from here, we stayed here for 2 weeks all inclusive this bein are 3rd year in bulgaria, wev stoped at a 2 star that had more choice for british then this hotel. i can not stress enough how bad the food was!!! wer a younge familly n not picky 1 little bit we would ov been happy with chips even, we couldnt even get a plate of hot chips, there wasend even a description on the food labels telling what the dish was just pitcures of animals, like the pitcures ur kids get in nursery on there coat pegs, its the 3rd year in a row ive travelled with balkan holidays i explained to the rep the whole point in bein allinclusive was beacuse we didnt want to have to eat out but beacuse ther wasned anything to eat that we had to eat out every meal time, it was like nocking on wood it didnt make a didnt make a blind diffrence.. not just the english were complaining so was everyone else!! This hotel is right next to the strip and theres allso cocktail bar under the 1st floor and they play dance music from 10 in the morning till 11 at night which is great if ya not with children, bulgaria this year is the new 18 to 30s and was wild everywer, it was like disco everynight in are room with all the flashing lights off the stripper place exotic dancers straight faceing the hotel, if ya goin as couple are with pals then this is defo the main place to be, but a no no with famillys.

Room Tip: if your there for a wild one then the 1st floor is defintley the room to have the music is that loud...

Went to the Hotel Mercury on 31st August 12 for 2 weeks. When we arrived at the hotel in the early hours of the morning we were giving something to eat and a drink which we didnt expect since it was about 2:30 am.
I will start with what i thought was the best points, the location of this hotel is fantastic and in my eyes could not be better. Located on Artist Street and literally a 2 minute walk onto Flower Street. We had room 303 which was facing onto Artist street, at first we weren't happy as we wanted a pool view however it turns out these rooms are better than the ones over the pool. There was no noise once your balcony door is closed so not even kept awake by the pubs and clubs of flower street. The room itself is huge, we had a massive bed, sofa, table, fridge, air con and a huge balcony with 2 chairs. The service in the hotel wasn't too bad however it did depend who was working, Petko (the younger one) was brilliant behind the bar and knew what he was doing however the other one did not have a clue, i mean is it really that hard to know what a rum and coke is?? The majority of the reception staff were also really good and we did not have any issues with them. The pool area was another big plus for us, as we found out from speaking to people from other hotels, the Mercury's pool gets the sun all day right up to about 6pm where as other hotels were losing the sun as early as 3pm. However the pool was freezing still!!
Ok so the things we didn't really enjoy, THE FOOD! Yes, yes its the usual moan. As a travel agent i can honestly tell you that every hotel in Bulgaria suffers with bad food reviews so i did not expect this one to be any different. The choice was very very limited and didn't always seem appertising however the food was cooked and was always warm. If you want good food in your hotel don't go to Bulgaria in my eyes its simple or go Self Catering and eat out its cheap enough.
So to end i will say that i would go back to this hotel without hesitation and have recommended it to customers. I am booking to go back next june!

Room Tip: Fantastic Location, Rooms overlooking Artist Street are brilliant

Hotel is in the central of the resort and easy access to everything - however you can hear the music outside till late at night - we managed to get sleep though. there is play area for children and a pool table. However there is no form of entertainment day or night.

Rooms: very big, very clean, massive bed, sheets changed once in one week and clean towels everyday. No light on the balcony so could not use at night. I have a 2 year old and they sleep on a sofa bed in the same room so you have to creep around so you don't wake them. Air conditioning works well and you control it. Also a fridge in the room

Food: The food wasn;t great and was very repepetive - breakfast was as expected random sausage and bacon things!!! Boiled eggs, ham, bread, salad, cheese, cereal and yoghurt, Lunch and Dinner the same = always a fish thing, pork and chicken however nothing is grilled and everything seems to be stewed and cheap cuts of meat. Cold chips and cold pizza, nice salad and feta cheese, 2 soups. I only ate the salad and the feta and the lovely ice cream.

Drinks: beer, soft drinks and usual spirits included these were ok

Pool: Very cold and alot of broken glass around the edge, buts lots of sunbeds

overall this hotel should be a bed and breakfast basis. My advice if you are going to sunny beach is NOT to go all inclusive as there are many places to eat at cheap prices.

Room Tip: Rooms on facing the pool are quieter

We stayed in the Mercury September 2011 the hotel was really good value for money -- this year it has really dropped it's standards we had to ask for the bedding to be changed and the towels were either totally dingy white or had rips in them food was total crap. It has dropped from a excellant 5* down to a poor 2* in our eyes NEVER again will we visit THe Mercury hotel.

Room Tip: DON'T pick the Mercury look elsewhere
