We've arrived to the hotel Avalon in the beginning of June 2012 to stay there for 3 days. There were two of us and we reserved one double room.
It all began just from the moment of arrival: hotel staff gave us only one key for double room, then we didn't manage to find this room because of abscence of number sign on the door. Air conditioner didn't work at all; fridge was working very noisy - it was a best decision to turn it off to be able to sleep. The telephone also didn't work - telephone master came on the 2nd day and didn't manage to fix it up. Room service didn't left any toilet paper, I had to go down to reception and ask them to bring it, and they did it - after 4 or 5 hours! On the 2nd day we left our towels for replacement, and when we came back to the room we found that only one of two towels has been replaced, another one disappeared! The toilet room is absolutely horrible - there is no separate shower cabin or bath. After taking a shower all room becomes wet - with WC, toilet paper and other stuff! Bed linen wasn't changed during all 3 days, there were a lot of beach sand in the end. Room maid didn't speak any language except bulgarian, and we didn't manage to communicate with her about even simpliest questions.
I was very disappointed. And I can only resume, that the staff of this hotel don't know anything about SERVICE. This hotel deserves only 2 stars, but not 4, by no means!

Hotel is located on the edge of Sunny Beach - 15 minute walk to the main strip.

The hotel is recently built and as a result is still in excellent clean and tidy condition.

It would appear to be a mix of Eastern European, Russian, Italian and small percentages of other nationalities staying in the hotel.

There is a 24 hour supermarket stocking almost everything you could need for lunches and breakfast. We ate a small snack in the restaurant and thought it was very nice. (Always ask for hot food).

The pool has been designed in such as way as having sun on most of it throughout the day.

This hotel can suit most people although maybe not ideal for young families as things for children are a little limited apart from children's pool and small playground.

Some work still to be completed at the rear of the hotel although this does not effect peoples stay in anyway.

Beach is approx 7 minute walk. 4 minute walk to good collection of bars and restaurants and shops.

Brennans Irish bat in Silver Springs Hotel is about 5 minute walk also.

We arrived at approx 5 am on the 11th Sept. Some very noisy people were drinking, shouting and playing loud music on their balcony. We were given the room next door so we couldn't sleep although we were exhausted!
Our room was clean but the sliding doors to the balcony did not lock and there was no plug in the bathroom sink. The doors were fixed promptly but we never got the plug for the sink despite being promised many times that we would!
Later that day we discovered that the pool bar had closed down at the end of August, no meals apart from breakfast would be available in the restaurant and the on-site supermarket was practically empty.
The breakfast offered was almost inedible - the worst we have ever experienced! The food was lukewarm, overcooked and strange - broccoli or mixed veg along with fried eggs!! On the last two days of our holiday there was no hot food at all!! Plates containing cold fried egg, bacon and an assortment of cold vegetables awaited us when we went for breakfast! The hotel was closing for the season so no hot food was available. We mostly ate toast and jam or honey for the full 10 days of our holiday or ate elsewhere.
We also found the staff to be completely uninterested and sullen. Everything seemed to be too much bother for them.
Had we known how this hotel would operate at the end of the season we would never have gone there. We wonder if it's any better in July or August?

Myself and my daughter (9yrs) stayed here for two weeks between 9th and 23rd August. To be honest and frank.....why are they advertising this place ??? We arrived early morning, and was shown to our room. Very basic, two single beds in the bedroom (that's all),in the living area a wardrobe, fridge tv with cabinet, sofa and table. There are wires sticking out of the walls where lights and the fire alarm system should be. The balcony safety barrier was loose, which to be fair they did fix in the morning with expanding foam ???. The place is still not completely finished, as proved by the work still ongoing in other rooms including the one next door to ours. Full marks to the hotel go for bed linen (twice a week) and towel changing (every day). The first week the place was amass with loud rowdy dutch/ german and russian 20-25yr olds who took over the swimming pool, playing with footballs all afternoon, on more than one occasion beer glasses where smashed into the swimming pools including the toddler pool. Very annoying for everyone else around the pool trying to relax. Breakfast !!!!!!! What a nightmare ,don't pay for it ,we ended up going out every day after trying it for two days. Spaghetti and meatballs with broccoli and other veg , meat ,cheese, and various other oddities. As others have mentioned the bar drinks are alot more expensive 4-5 levs (£1.88) compared to the best price for a pint, around the centre of 0.89 levs (39p). But the on site supermarket sells a good selection of beers which you can purchase and drink around the pool area. Be warned there is no shower / changing facilities if u have an early morning flight. You still have to vacate your room for 12pm . Bulgaria / Sunny Beach is a great place to visit, but read all the reviews reference your chosen hotel. After staying at the Iberostar last year this was a total let down for us both.

Arrived at the hotel at around midnight on the 10th of August and was met by a english speak receptionist who arranged to have my bags carried to my room. Me and my Girlfrielnd where shown to our room and where really happy to find it clean, tidy and equipt with a kichenette, AC, and a TV. After a good night sleep we went down to breackfast which was ok but not really worth getting up for so didn`t bother for the rest of the week. The pool was great and we never had a problem getting ourselves a sun lounger. The pool bar was also good and open 24 hours a day, drink prices did seem to vary but always stayed cheap. All in all the Avalon is a good hotel, one point to note is, there was not many Brits staying there when we where there and was mostly populated by the Dutch.
