“great holiday - do not believe all you read”
Reviewed 30 August 2010

We have just got back from a week in this hotel. We were told the hotel food was a bit bland so booked room only. Best decision ever. All the local restaurants are friendly and serve good food at a good price. The nearer you get to the main street in Sunny beach, the dearer the meals became. Beer ranges from 1 lev to 2.5 lev for 1/2 litre. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the 'Animation Team' ( entertainment). Main bar staff knew quickly what drinks we wanted so made ordering later in the week easier. Pool bar staff were really friendly. Pool is a good size and has an extra childrens pool. The hotel was clean and well decorated, although book a fan as there is no air conditioning in the rooms. Our only let down was that we had some items stolen from our room. Only us and the cleaners had access. ( you work it out) pay for a safety box at reception and use it. We are going again next year. Maybe see you there!

On arrival and subsequent dealings with the reception staff they were so unhelpful it was unbelievable. There were very few staff who could speak English. Rooms so hot - no air conditioning and not enough fans for rent. If you are allocated a room at the front of the hotel, beware, as there Lazur night club is within spitting distance and can be very noisy so unable to have the windows open making sleeping conditions very difficult because of the heat. The shower leaked every time it was used. There were cockroaches in the room. The room itself was very basic with no hotel welcome pack explaining the use of telephone, tv (not that it worked) or emergency procedures, one of the sockets was hanging off the wall exposing bare wires. Although our rooms were cleaned regularly and the bedding changed, my sister who was only along the corridor did not have clean bedding provided throughout her stay. Pavements in the complex were broken loose and uneven. The main reception area was very dark, hot and unwelcoming. All in all the hotel was in a very bad state of disrepair and not one we would recommend.

Just back from Hotel Pomorie. This Hotel is really the worst hotel i have ever seen. I have stayed in some really basic hotels but this is worse than basic. The worst thing about this hotel is the thefts, the first night we arrived a room on our floor was broken into. There is no real security as the doors on the stairwells leading to the room are all jammed open 24-7. We didnt really feel safe our entire stay. It was obvious that the room that we stayed in had also been broken into as the door frame was all cracked and splintered around the lock. The cleaners didnt clean very well, i dont think the bathroom was ever cleaned. We had clothing taken from our rooms but the rep was not interested. We booked room only which we were glad of because not one person we spoke to had a good thing to say about the food. The balcony was really unsafe as if you had a small child they could easily fit between the frame of the balcony and fall. The balcony was also coved in broken tiles. We hired a fan because of the lack of air conditioning but all the fan seemed to do was blow the hot air around. The pool in the hotel is nice and big and looks clean we only went to the pool for a few hours one day but it was good. Most days we went to the beach as we just wanted to get away from the hotel. This is the second time we have been to sunny beach within the last 3 years. Its a really nice place with plenty to do for all ages. We would definitely go back but not to this hotel. It is still a cheap destination but the prices have risen since we were there last. The local beers and spirits are very cheap and most bars have happy hours. The standard of food in the restaurants has improved since we were there last. My advice would be DONT GO to hotel pomorie!!!!!

IN ONE WORD- SHOCKING WORST HOTEL EVER BEEN IN. THOUGHT I WAS IN THE BRONX!!- As a single parent on holiday with young teenage daughter i have never felt so vulnerable ever. Everything you read about this hotel in the reviews is true. I went with an open mind thinking that you can't please every all of the time. It is as shocking as it is written on this site.;_
1. CLEANLINESS - very bad, slap dash toilets, sink never cleaned!!! wet towels never removed and any empty bottle for recyling forget it - take them yourselves!!!
2. Everyday there was theft's being reported things going missing from rooms, clothes
jewelery, perfumes anything small things you think you misplaced but never.
3. TELL THE CLEANER YOU CAN'T FIND YOUR KEY TO YOUR ROOM- THEY LET YOU IN- NO CHECKS IN PLACE TO SEE IF IT IS YOUR ROOM THEY JUST OPEN THE DOOR AND GO ON THEIR WAY!!!-
4. Pool areas dangerous-lose slabs around the pool- no marking to indicate steps into the pools, or clear marking of depth of pool.
5. NO AIR CON- NO FANS AVAILABLE TO HIRE 8 DAYS IN HEAT OF OVER 41 A DAY AND EVENTUALLY BY PLEADING I WAS GIVEN ONE- no help to heat though.
6. Witnessed the pool attendent attacking a man in the pool in front of young children.
7. I t was rough so many people coming into the Hotel pool and using as a free for all- even to the point of them doing undesirable things in the pool and hotel grounds!!
8. Paving area's around the hotel was loose and sticking up also very very sticky where people had tipped drinks etc on their way back to the pool.
9.The list is endless would i recommend this hotel for families and single parents No!
10. Wardrobes in room so small you had to leave things in a suitcase and padlocked because of the thefts
11. Sunbeds down before 5.30am to get one and then just pray that no one threw your towels away and claim the beds for themselves.
12. People from surrounding area's came in everyday to which made things worse all sorts going on, especially in early hours around the pool.

We booked two weeks all inclusive at the hotel Pomorie through Co-op travel agent in Doncaster; we were told that the Pomorie was great for kids with lots for them to do.
We returned home to read the reviews on trip advisor only to be horrified by the large amount of negative comments, we returned to our travel agent a few days later to discuss with the young lady with whom we booked the holiday only to be told that she had visited the hotel personally, and whilst she did not eat there she did view the restaurant and the buffet which looked very clean and the food on offer looked very nice.
Whilst we are not particularly fussy eaters we consider food to be very subjective so we decided to keep an open mind and give it a go.
Here’s what we found -
The biggest disappointment for us was the condition of the hotel, we have two children a six and a three year old, our balcony was a mine field of trap hazards for small hands and feet, and the floor of the balcony was only partially tiled with a rough concrete lip protruding from the edge.
At the threshold of several doors all around the Hotel tiles were broken exposing sharp ceramic edges that one little boy actually lost his toenail on.
The amount of trip hazards is staggering, there are steel spikes left protruding from flower beds which will cause serious injury or possibly even death to anyone falling on them – see photos. This had us constantly nagging the kids not to run so we couldn’t relax
Rules of play at the pool are not enforced, teenagers allowed to jump from the railings separating the toddlers pool and the adult pool, the life guard was either playing volley ball, taking a nap having a massage or was round at the Fenix hotel drinking coffee. One little boy actually drowned during our stay and spent three days in intensive care.
We do not feel that the food served at the Pomorie to be fit for human consumption, we did speak by chance to the former restaurant manager of the Pomorie who informed us that the First Investment bank whom own Balkan Holidays also owns the Pomorie and that they sub contract out the restaurant to another company for a very small amount per head hence the poor food, this of course is hearsay
After three days we had, had enough and tried to speak to our rep at the hotel, this was a complete waste of time, we were fobbed off with the response “This is what you booked – No availability in any other hotel” he said this without picking up a phone. We contacted the co-op in the UK and told them to get us out of the hotel, they called us back and said an appointment had been made for us at the Balkan Holidays head office at the Globus hotel, on arrival at the head office they claimed they did not know of any appointment consequently we explained our concerns they offered to move us to the Fenix but we would be reduced to half board and there would be an additional charge of £65, which we gladly paid.
We handed in a complaint form to Peter (Hotel Pomorie Rep) detailing white meats cooked incorrectly and still red in the middle specifically chicken and he tried to tell us that this is how they cook chicken in Bulgaria!!
On the whole we are astounded that a reputable company like the co-op would send us somewhere that was outright dangerous for our kids.
The mattress for the kid’s camp bed was less than an inch thick and thread bear, the supporting framework had strips of wood that was very uncomfortable.
The all inclusive package was very poor with the choice of soft drinks being Sprite, Fanta and Coke, on several days it was just coke, the snacks were mostly small cakes which tasted like bite-size pieces of wet sponge.
There was a the occasional large square pizza which was taken to reception first who removed a quarter for the staff the remainder was then given to the guests who devoured it in seconds because its all the kids would eat.
On arrival at the Fenix we met several other families who had been moved, as they too were very unhappy with the condition of the hotel and its facilities.
Finally the inclusive red band given to the all-inclusive Pomorie guests is locally known as the band of shame!!!
Of course all reviews are subjective, However having experienced this first hand we would strongly advise that if you are a family with children – and have already booked this hotel – Do your best now before leaving the UK to get a different hotel.
