“Good Location”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

We stayed in the Grand Hotel for a long weekend after driving down from the quiet of the mountains we wanted to be in the centre of things and we were not dissapointed with the location of the Grand.
It's location is right on the beach promanade surrounded by resturants and bars.
We used the hotels All-Inclusive option for our stay and although the food had a good selection for all meat sittings the bar was very limited and did not include Whiskey which was a huge disspointment to little ole whiskey drinker ...me!
The All-Inclusive bar was only open from 10am to 10pm so late evenings we all headed to the outside bar until the early hours of the morning. Next time we will do without the All-Inclusive and save the money for the bar.
Overall a very pleasent stay and most of the staff also speak a little english, which helps those of us that have not fully mastered the mysteries of the Cyrillic Language.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the higher floors for a good nights sleep and don@t bother with the All-Inclusive...

Even though my parents and I arrived at this hotel at three in the morning, the reception staff were still very friendly and informative as they led us to our room (number 1014). The room was just the right size for us and provided us with a free air-conditioner (it didn't help much as it couldn't handle the heat, which reached up to 40 degrees!) My parents beds were comfortable, mine however was a spring bed that creaked every time I moved. The food was absolutely gorgeous! They had such a wide variety of traditional meals and desserts, you couldn't go hungry! Plus the meat was ever so tender and juicy. Sometimes at dinner time they would play calm dining music but other times they would play fast club music which I didn't find very appropriate. The pool was nice but at times it got full of people, same with the deck chairs. That’s why I’d recommend bringing your towels down at breakfast and reserving a deckchair. Every fortnight they would do a Bulgarian night which included traditional food, music and folk dance. I don’t know what some people found bad about this hotel, I’d definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less noise from the karaoke at night.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Sunny Beach for two weeks and had a wonderful time. The beach (one of the finest in Europe i.m.o.) is a stone's throw away. The hotel's location is very central (on beach promenade, near Flower street). Our room was on the 10th floor where we had a great view (sea & beach up to Nessebar) from the balcony. The rooms are spacious but admittedly have seen better days. Beds are reasonably comfortable. Sheets were changed once a week and beds were made daily. The aircon is struggling to cope and it doesn't get really cold at night.

Bathroom has a shower (soap, shampoo, shower gel & toilet paper are provided). There is a hairdryer but it gets very hot while airflow is low. Put dirty towels on the floor and they were always replaced with clean ones. Tip: put the 'do not disturb' / 'make up room' tag on the doorknop outside - works like a dream.

Lifts worked fine but you may have to wait at peak times (e.g. breakfast, dinner). Safety deposit boxes are available in the lobby for 5 lev/day. Unfortunately there is a shortage of sunbeds by the pool. Some people leave towels on them overnight - not really fair but hey-ho. There is plenty of space on the beach but you pay 24 lev for 2 sunbeds + umbrella.

We had the all inclusive option which means buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner + tea break + free drinks from 10am till 10pm. The quality of the food is very good and there is a huge selection (includes soups, salads, deserts, ice cream). The only risk is you'll eat too much (I gained 4 lbs in 2 weeks).

The staff work very long hours and are friendly. Most of them speak (some) English (much better than my Bulgarian).

Wi-Fi access (in the lobby only) is intermittent and slow. Entertainment in the hotel is limited. Karaoke in the lobby bar, video games in the games room and a fortnightly Bulgarian evening with folk dancing that's about it. The room has a small telly with EuroNews amongst other channels. Bring a few books!

All in all, if you want a value-for-money hotel on the beach with good food and you're able to entertain yourself then this is a good choice.

Room Tip: Great view from the higher floors.

This hotel is in a fantastic location right on the beach in central Sunny Beach. We are a young couple and were pleased to find loads to see and do close by. Thankfully Flower Street is 300 yds south so it is a relatively quiet area at night. We were always able to find 1 or 2 sunbeds around the pool after a late breakfast. The dining room / bar / cleaning staff work tirelessly round the clock and will do everything with a smile and pleasant conversation. We were all inclusive and enjoyed a good selection of food for each meal but there are plenty of reasonably priced places around.

Room Tip: We had a standard side sea view room which was fine. I believe they have larger apartments and the...

As a basic hotel, the Grand is fine. Rooms are basic and clean. We had a fantastic sea view from the 10th floor. Staff were polite and courteous. We went at the height of the holiday season, and there were no sunbeds by the pool EVER! I heard of people setting alarms for 5am to get a bed. Not us!! The beach is literally outside the door, but it did cost 24 LEV (about £ 10 per day) for 2 sunbeds and a parasol. Well worth it. The beach is beautiful. Once you've visited, you won't care about the pool.
The food is basic, but always found something I enjoyed and its always hot. It's so cheap to eat out in sunny beach, and the pub attached to the hotel is great. 2 for 1 cocktails and spirits. Works out about £1 a vodka! We met great people and had a fantastic time. I would stay again, just for a handy base and not on the all inclusive concept. But for the price we paid at the height of the season, it really was a good deal.
