“fantastic budget hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2013

I have just returned from a fortnights stay in the hotel iskar sunny beach bulgaria. We booked our holiday through low cost holidays .com and were very pleased with the price of £485.00 for the two weeks all inclusive. As the cost was so minimal we were only expecting the very basics and were using the hotel as a base as Bulgaria is so cheap . I have to say we were all pleasantly surprised. The food although a bit repetative over the two weeks was perfectly fine, sometimes not quite as hot as we would have liked. The bar services from ten am through to eleven pm was very good. The roooms were clean spacious and the towels were changed daily if requested and the beds at least three times a week. What made the holiday for us were the staff they were all so friendly and helpful the restaurant and bar manager Dimitri spoke very good english him and all of his staff were polite helpful and happy. The bar staff Martin and Kiko were second to none I have never done an all inclusive stay before but would reccomend it now to anyone. We went on holiday expecting to get what we paid for but I have to say we got that and alot more besides.

Room Tip: The hotel has fourteen floors so if you dont like heights book a lower floor.

The hotel is very near to the beach, but you do not need to go there as they have large pool area with water slides, free chairs and umbrellas. There are two hotel buildings, one smaller (new) and one 14 floors tall (old). Wonderful views from the balcony on the 13th floor where my room was. Breakfast was O.K. Rooms are pretty basic, but clean, air conditioned and with two chairs and table on the balcony.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floors will guarantee you a magnificent views!

basic rooms
basic food bettter eating dinner and lunch elsewhere
good pool facilities and cheap massage of high quality
all staff very friendly and had travel cot in room for little one.

lifts are tiny, can barely fit 3 people in them, bit of a pain having to wait 10 minutes from the 9th floor in the morning.

decent budget holiday.

Room Tip: get one facing beach

Reception services were fine. Restaurant staff looked like they would rather been every where else than working. Breakfast ok. But dinner was AWFULL. Thank goodness, we did not have all the meals included, it would have been waste of money.
Entertaining group in the hotel were great, there was something for everyone.
Music could be heard to rooms untill midnight. If going there with kids, request a room from top floors.

We visited the Iskar on invitation as kind of an advance party. There are two parts, the newer, lower level and the communist era high rise. I wound up on one of the upper levels of the high rise and that was very nice since it provided a great view of the town, unfortunately not directly toward the beach. As "guests" of a sort, we were treated very politely, so it is hard to say how other visitors fared, but from observation it seemed that most things went fairly smoothly. At least we heard no loud arguments with the staff. The rooms were clean and functional, if not exactly modern. They were sufficiently comfortable and I had a TV and balcony. If you plan to hang out in the bars and on the beach, this is more than adequate. My suite even had a kitchenette, so that could have added to the savings, if desired. Internet is only available in the lobby, but if you aren't working there (as most are not), then this should be of little importance. The hotel does have a small parking lot, as most visitors are bussed there directly from the Airport. Upgrades were being planned, but I don't know what the status of these are.
The hotel is just 5 minutes from the beach, and also has a fairly nice exterior, with a nice pool and lawn. There were quite a few parents with kids and the atmosphere was quite pleasant. The restaurant is large and well equipped. Breakfast was decent, but we did not eat dinner at the hotel, so no comment there. The bar is quite nice and prices for drinks are reasonable. We were there during the soccer championships which was quite an experience.
Sunny Beach is for people who: 1. want to hang out at the beach; 2. want to have a choice of bars to visit; and 3. don't mind all of the trappings of cheap tourist spots (shops, street vendors, brochure hawkers, etc.) There is the occasional annoying beggar, there are all the doormen at the restaurants, but we found that ignoring the nuisances was easy and once ignored they left you alone. We noticed numerous bar-crawl groups late in the evening (mostly British and German) but only heard of a few incidents of people being ripped off or other crimes. Not only at Sunny Beach, but in general in Bulgaria, service is still a new concept, so don't expect too much. I've seen other complaints about not being able to get change, but never had much of a problem with that, though it did happen occasionally.

We have been to Sunny Beach 5 times and stayed at this hotel two times. It is one of the older hotels in Sunny Beach, but has been very well kept. The staff were friendly and helping. The swimming-pool area is quite big and very nice, one adult-pool and one children's pool. They also have a sand-volleyball-court and outside-stage where music is played at evenings. There is a mini-golf very close.
The perfect beach is only 200 metres from the hotel. There are hotels, restaurants and bars everywhere around this hotel, so it might be a little too loud some times. I didn't mind though. I really like the area around this hotel, it's one of my favorites. The drawbacks of this hotel are: No aircondition and the restroom in the lobby is very bad.

  • Liked — The area and the pool
  • Disliked — No aircondition and louse lobby-bathrooms...
