Me and my friend went to sunny beach for a girls holiday and this hotel was the best place to stay because it was only 5 mins away from the bars and clubs. The hotel was always clean and the room was always cleaned nice. The food was nice and you could always find something to have. If I go back to sunny beach I will stay in this hotel again..

We stayed at this fabulous hotel from 27th June to 04th July 2014. We received a lovely warm and friendly welcome from the reception staff even though it was almost midnight, they were so bright, helpful and polite and porters were there to assist with our cases, the friendliness of all the staff is incredible. The wonderful selection of food everyday is gorgeous, and the cleanliness of all areas is impressive. The ladies who do the housekeeping are exceptional, they attend your room everyday to a high standard and always say hello with a smile. The pool areas are spotless, so are the bars and restaurants. The bars serve a very good selection of cocktails, and you never have to wait to get served, always lots of barstaff serving, which sometimes at all inclusive hotels, you only have one or two staff serving and you have to queue, but not at this hotel! The Asian and The Bulgarian Restaurants are absolutely wonderful, don't forget to book them in advance, the food and the service in both are fantastic. The hotel provides you with bottled water every time you ask, no limits on how many you want. What impressed me was you don't have to pay for the shower room facilities if you have a late flight home, just book 2 days before you leave, they supply fresh towels, shower gel etc,. The entertainment is a laugh, full of fun, although we are older and our kids are grown up now, it was a delight to see kids enjoying the entertainment which is suitable for the young ones. You have to try the bars outside the hotel, the ones in Flower Street are for the 18+ upwards, but if you go to the area left of the hotel main entrance it's not quite so mad and the drinks are so much cheaper. Take a trip to the island of Nessebar Old Town, it's a lovely way to spend a day strolling around the narrow cobbled sreets full of little craft shops, bars, restaurants. You can get the No.1 bus from the main road and it only costs 1 Lev (about 41p) eachway. We also got a bus to Bourgas from the main Bus Station just off the main road, (cost about £1.20 eachway) don't be persuaded by the taxi drivers, they will charge you 35 Lev which is about £14.50. Visit the harbour and the town centre, it's a lovely town. The countryside is beautiful on the way to Bourgas, bright yellow fields of sunflowers for miles and mountains in the distance, best seen from the bus, you'll miss this scenery if you go by taxi. If you're thinking of booking this hotel, do it! You won't be dissappointed, If you have already booked, you can put your mind at rest, you have absolutely made the best choice. I hope you enjoy your holiday as much as we did, we will definately return to Riu Helios on Sunny Beach.

Room Tip: Pay the little extra for a room overlooking the mainpool with a seaview, 04th floor was good, it'...

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at the RIU Helios. The flight times to Bulgaria from Gatwick aren't that good, all seem to be night flights and we arrived very tired at 6am in the morning. The check in at Reception was very smooth and we were allocated room 4119 which faced the pool and had a sea view. The rooms are very spacious with a fridge, TV, AC and good size bathroom.
We did find that on a number of nights we were woken up by 'youngsters' coming in from a night out in the early hours of the morning and not being that considerate, but hay, we were young once ! On the 2nd night we were there, we got back to our room after a night out to discover one of the roof tiles smashed on the floor ! The AC had leaked. Luckily we weren't in the room at the time as it could have been nasty. The reception dealt with it, sent up a cleaner and an engineer was called the next day. On returning to our room the next day, a nice bottle of complimentary champagne was waiting us.
The Dining Room was immaculate and the staff worked so hard and made sure your plates were cleared away and everything was clean. We were more than happy with the choice of food. The salad selection was amazing and we were spoilt for choice. We booked one night in the Asian Restaurant and again the food was lovely. It was buffet style like in the main restaurant, but had a choice of sushi, spring rolls, Asian rice and noodles and ofcourse waiter service. Give it a try you won't be disappointed. There was also the pool snack bar which again was very good and plenty of selection.
We didn't use the beach which is situated at the back via the gates and only a 2 minute walk. It was Packed !!!! rows and rows of sunbeds and umbrellas right up to the waters edge and you have to pay to use them. Think it was about 8 LEV each. So we stayed by the poolside. The pools were maned by lifeguards and cleaned every day. Sadly it was a case of getting up early to put towels on the beds to secure them. Some as early as 7am we noticed. If you were a late riser then sadly you missed out.
The Animation Team were great. We didn't get too involved in the activities they provided as we just wanted to relax, but the entertainment in the evenings at the Salon Bar was worth a visit.
The one excursion we did do was Khans Tent. Well worth a visit. There is a 4 course meal with a bottle of wine each and glass of bubbly, it's around £74.00 for two. They put on a show after the meal.
'The Strip' ... well this was an eye opener for us olds :) .. we really enjoyed walking down the strip and the adjoining roads in the evenings. Lots to see and do. Cocktail Bars and restaurants, girls dancing on the bars .. groups of young adults on 'pub crawls' .. but we felt very safe and never pressured to go into any of the bars etc. If you were approached and said No, they happily left you alone and said 'maybe tomorrow' ..lol..
The Riu is situated at the end of the strip so you don't get the noise or hassle and bustle.
We really enjoyed our stay in Bulgaria and at the Riu Helios. The Riu chain doesn't disappoint. A good class of hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for pool or sea front facing rooms as these are quieter.

I was worried when I went to this hotel as I dealt direct making the booking and had a number of issues trying to make the payment until I managed eventually to contact the right people by email this took some weeks. However this holiday went as smooth as silk on arrival at the hotel we had no issues at all, we were greeted with a drink, no issues checking in even though we were about 2 hours earlier than check in time, someone was quickly summoned with a cage to carry our cases and escorted us to the room, he even unloaded the cases into the room for us and positioned them where we wanted, as we entered we were stunned by the excellent sea view.

We were given a room at the end of a corridor on the fifth floor every room has a decent size balcony with table and chairs, the room size is very good bathroom excellent with good shower area, only slight issue only one power socket so bit of a issue charging items.
Our view was of the sea the entertainment bar and one of the two large pools,
Away from the room four lifts available so not long to wait to get to the lobby area from where you can access the main restaurant the front exit to the street, the pool bar and exits to the two large pools, both with large shallow childrens areas and they are surrounded by well maintained sunbeds tables and parasols.
Near the pools there is also a snack bar not like any snack bar, I have ever come across before not just the greasy burgers, this was excellent with a huge array of salad, also pizza, excellent sandwiches and every sort of soft drink and wine and beer, the snack bar really a restaurant is also used as a Bulgarian theme restaurant in evenings, and I highly recommend this all food is served buffet style.
The restaurant in the main building is equally impressive all buffet style but the quality of food is worthy of any top restaurant the main difficulty is to contain yourself from overeating.
The restaurant differed some of the lines whilst maintaining core items of salads, fruit, pizza and many others the special lines were roast beef, pork, lamb, chicken etc. really something for everyone.
Near the main restaurant there is also a speciality Asian restaurant, excellent for some not to my personal taste as I don't really like Asian food but my wife enjoyed.
overall I thought that the food was the best I have had in any hotel anywhere having taken many foreign holidays, even at Iberostar, we stayed two weeks and even in that time it did not become repetitive.
Bar service is good with a well staffed bar area and quick service with drinks to please most however I did find that drinking the beer it seemed to taste of something like soluble aspirin maybe RUI have found a way of combining a hangover cure into the drinks.
entertainment cant expect a lot in these places but remarkably some nights it was very good some nights pretty awful, however animation team fantastic, they worked so hard and I agree with the comment made by one of them that they put their hearts into what they did.

Finally the staff in general they were all fantastic friendly wonderful service trying hard and they did all succeed in making this a wonderful holiday, this was really perfect.
one downside is that not much English spoken here I think they are more used to germans and French so sometimes can be a bit difficult to communicate.
also if you leave the hotel beware of the buses service is not good information is bad and they even seem to deliberately mislead got the feeling they did not like the british, but well worth visiting nearby Pomorie and Nessebar
Thank you to all at RUI HELLIOS wonderful break in every way.

Room Tip: all rooms seem high standard but best are sea view on higher floors away from any noise

Writing an objective review about a hotel you have stayed in without it drifting into being subjective is a bit of a paradox.Ignore the negative reviews - you won't be disappointed with a RIU Hotel, they must be staying in a different place to me.

My wife and I stayed in the Riu Helios Palace from 30th June - until the 11th of July 2014. Burgas is a small airport and the bus transfer should only take around 25 minutes - on this occasion it was a protracted affair as the bus was over-booked. Until some nice Geordie lads offered to get off and wait for the next available bus,so other travelers could continue to their hotels.

We eventually arrived in the early hours of the morning.

RECEPTION:

Check in was swift courteous and painless. The reception Staff all spoke good English. The room card key was issued along with two separate cards for the towels - which are surrendered to the Pool Lifeguard in the morning in exchange for the towels. At check in, a password and user name are issued for the use of 1 personal device for 90 minutes duration. There are five PC's in the lobby which can be used for 30 minutes for 5 Lev and 1 hour for 8Lev. A 1 litre bottle of water is issued and more can be obtained from Reception.

ROOM:

We were in room 4151 with a view over the pool areas - it was spacious and well appointed with a fridge -TV - and hair drier. There is a sliding glass door to the balcony with another sliding door with net fitted to prevent the ingress of insects. The A/C worked well, there was clean fresh linen and towels provided along with toiletries, there is also a safe situated in the wardrobe. Some guests complained of being woken in the early hours by youngsters going back to their rooms after a night on the "strip". We weren't disturbed at all and you could hear a pin drop at night - plus we were situated well away from the lifts which will always attract noise of some kind. The bathroom is fully tiled - and spacious - with carpeted areas in the bedroom.

FOOD AREAS:

The main Dining Room area is immaculate with white linen table cloths and napkins in the morning and evening. A dress code is compulsory so you won't be allowed in in a vest in the evening. There is a choice of soup, salads, hot selection an endless supply of ice cream and cakes and continental cheeses. If you hanker for fish fingers chips and beans then perhaps you should try a stay-cation in Blackpool. I personally found the food to be excellent with a varied choice

There is a pool snack bar that basically serves the same food as the main restaurant but it's less formal.- again the food is varied and appetizing regardless. There are 2 themed restaurants an Asian and a Bulgarian we didn't try the Bulgarian. The Asian is all part of the all inclusive but has to be booked in advance. This consists of sushi and typical Chinese cuisine and was very well presented and delicious into the bargain.

POOL SAUNA/MASSAGE:

There are two pool areas suitable for both children and adults the water was clear and well filtered and was observed to be checked regularly for water quality. The surrounding garden areas were well tended with staff present - most day - doing something or other. There are Life guards on duty throughout the day from 0900/1700,they also double up as the towel guys. We didn't try the sauna or massage areas so can't comment. All toilets throughout the hotel were immaculate at all times.

BEACH/SEAFRONT:

The beach is literally outside the back gate and is a 2 minute walk, if that. It's packed most days with the usual water sports, there is a pontoon for boat access 15 minutes walk down the beach. This operates on a daily basis from 10am until 9pm running out to Nessebar which is well worth a visit as it's the old part of town and has 7th century churches and architecture with a good selection of shops, this costs costs 20 lev each around 8GBP. Or you can get the bus for 1 lev each ! but it's usually packed we got a taxi there for 15 lev and the bus back.

BAR AREAS:

All of the The Staff are tremendous and nothing is too much trouble - cocktails and alcoholic drinks are included. They are extremely attentative and endeavour to keep the bar areas clean and tidy. They are always polite and greet you with a smile.

ENTERTAINMENT:

The Animation team are excellent and are so enthusiastic trying to include the guests in darts - air rifle shooting - waterpolo - aquafit etc., Vladi/Bobi/Yanna/Ginady/Kalina many thanks for your efforts and tremendous enthusiasm in making it such a great stay. there is also a kids club and they are great with the kids. There are nightly shows put on by the animation team. This all takes place in the Salon Bar by the smaller pool.

If you get the opportunity to have a night out at Khans Tent- take it - as it's well worth a visit. There is a 4 course meal with a bottle of wine each and glass of bubbly,it's around 74GBP for two persons.

STAFF:

Absolutely tremendous teamwork - in all Departments - from the Management down to the Cleaners.A personal много благодаря from me and my wife for a very enjoyable stay.

CONCLUSION:

My wife and I had a great time at the RIU HELIOS and I would have no hesitation in staying at this hotel again.Don't listen to the doom and gloom merchants and the "serial whingers"

Room Tip: Try not to get a room too close to the lifts - of which there are 4 in number.
