“what you'd expect for what you pay!!”
Reviewed 20 August 2013

Recently just got back from a week's all inclusive stay at the Wela with a group of friends! Read some of the reviews beforehand and were slightly worries but it's really nowhere near as awful as everybody makes out!
When we arrived it was about 2pm and we were checked in swiftly by some polite reception staff (if you're nice to them, they're mic to you .. simple) we were then shown to our room and helped with our luggage by a very friendly member of staff.
We were placed on the fourth floor overlooking the pool, which was what we ha requested so that was all good. The room was very clean and spacious, the shower was especially big! Don't understand how people can say that their rooms weren't clean, we were other for seven daydream our sheets and towels wet changed daily, in fact it seems like the maids and cleaners work non stop, they are always milling around!
The pool area was very spacious and clean in my opinion, one of the bar staff wad really friendly by the pool bar, sometimes their is a slight wait on drinks but it is busy! There is also a bar lady with blonde hair who is so lovely! Again if you're nice to them, they're nice back.
The location is really good, far enough away from the strip but not too far!
The only bad points/things to be aware of we're;
-the security guard is rather scary, although we never had any problems we were a little cautious around him
-be careful if you get locked out of your room..they will charge you, we got charged 10 levels!
-if you want a good sunbed be prepared to get up really early
-the food is very average!
-be cautious on the strip of people constantly tryin to ask you to try grapes, they charge 80levels a bite! Also carry spare money around as you have to pay for the toilets in most nightclubs and bars!

All in all it was a really enjoyable holiday, and as I said, the hotel is what you'd expect for what you pay!:-)
Ps: THE ANIMATION TEAM ARE AMAZING!!!!!!!!

Just got back from a 2 week all inclusive holiday at the Wela - I read the reviews and was a little unsure what to expect..... but I have to say that I was very impressed. First of all let me say that if you want gourmet food DO NOT GO ON AN ALL INCLUSIVE PACKAGE!! The food was what you would expect from an all inclusive deal, only criticism I had is that as the restaurant closed at 21:00, if you went down for dinner late i.e. 20:30 then a lot of the food had gone but you certainly wouldn't starve. Breakfast is served from 7:30 - 10:00 and then the brunch restaurant opens at 10:00 serving pastries, coffee etc. From 12 mid day to 18:00 you can get pizzas, burgers, chips etc - lunch is served in the restaurant from 12:30 - 14:00 and then they serve the most delicious ice cream from 15:30. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the cleaners never seem to stop - I saw one cleaner on her hands and knees brushing a mat with a scrubbing brush and I saw another one cleaning windows at 24:00 (midnight). There is free wifi in the reception - what more do you need!! The entertainment staff are amazing, brilliant with the kids and organizing water polo, aqua aerobics and football for the adults. The room was a really good size - all rooms have balconies and we even had a power shower. Air con was on 24 hours a day, unlike other hotels we've stayed in where it's only on for certain times during the day. The waiters and bar staff are very friendly - we never experienced any member of staff being rude or unfriendly - also the all inclusive bar is open until mid night then there is a paying night bar which is open until 4am, what more do you want?? I would recommend this hotel to families, couples or groups of friends, we met all sorts of people and everyone that we spoke to said how impressed they were and couldn't understand the reviews written in a negative way. I would definitely go back again.

The hotel is nice and clean but thats about it.the food was disgusting and the bar staff were just miserable.when we were there around end of june there were gangs of young lads drunk out of there heads from morning to night.there language was disgusting, around the pool and around the bar at night.this hotel would make a good 18-30 holiday.i would not go back until they change there policy of having a load of idiots staying at there hotel.p.s the beer tasted good

Group of 10 booking with Thomas Cook, Flying from Gatwick, Checking in at 5am.

Upon arrival at around 5am we were delivered the line that became something of a punchline for the holiday amongst us 'Your room has crashed' as a 26 year old man i am aware of many things in the world that can crash, cars can crash, planes can crash however as far as i am aware rooms cannot crash.
Instead of being provided with the 5 bedrooms accommodating two individuals which we had paid for we were given 1 2 bedroom room with a shower and 1 bedroom with 8 'beds' and believe me i use the term bed in the loosest sense of the word as any time a feather went onto the bed the slats collapsed and the unlucky owner of the bed ended up on the floor (bed's can also crash) Additionally this room which housed 8 of us had no shower it had a bathtub, which as you can imagine is not practical in the slightest. Upon check-in we were told it would only be for a day or two not all 7 days we were there. One of the beds was also a sofa bed which was an atrocious excuse of a mattress placed on the same bed slats as the other beds, this had no blanket, sheets or pillows over the 7 days (Nothing like home comforts) The mattresses were stained and some fairly badly. There were always cleaners around which was perhaps the good aspect but i don't think they were able to grasp the concept of 8 men living in a room which perhaps is only allowed to house 4. So towels and toilet rolls were a rare commodity.

Thomas Cook had assured us as well as stated in the brochure that this was a lively hotel not suitable for families and would accomodate people of a similar age group of early to mid twenties. This hotel is not suitable for people of our age grouping this hotel was full of families and children, now i am perfectly able to tolerate that clientele so to speak and as a group we were always polite and courteous to staff and fellow guests however it seemed as if from start to finish we were treated as if we were purely a boisterous group of men who were not welcome in the hotel, despite being very quiet and civilised to all around us. We were given drink limits but families were allowed to bring trays over holding 30 drinks to their loungers around the pool, i was not able to take 10 drinks to my friends, double standards (maybe their bar crashed)

Food wise i didn't expect anything fantastic however the minium you would think you get is school dinner standards (which it wasn't) it was also nice to be told on several occasions you can't eat as it isn't open (all inclusive) chaperoned to another section of the restaurant for a continental breakfast or as i would call it stale bread and Jam that has been out in the sun for a week (maybe their jam jars crashed)

From some of the other reviews it was clear that there was issues with the security guard, he always seemed moderately fine with us, hello's here and there, perhaps he was aware that some of the better looking chaps on holiday may have a holiday romance, of course after a night out on the Sunny Beach strip if anyone was to bring an acquaintance home the security guard would make you pay him to bring a guest into the hotel for the nice fee of 40LVS, obviously this transaction was taken place out of sight of the cameras near the lift so the management never see.....which brings me to the lifts, DO NOT USE THESE absolute death traps, several times 3 men got in the lift and would have to encounter a climb of about 1.5 ft to get out of the lift, nothing like health and safety.

I am sure people will read this and think perhaps i expected to much for what we paid, however knowing there were other better hotels available for around £50 more i would urge anyone contemplating booking this hotel to pay the extra and treat yourself to some basic necessities like a bed that doesn't break and not being fed with a ridiculous lie of your room crashing when quite clearly they have just seen a booking of ten men and headed us in like cattle to a room. A family would not have been treated like that (rightfully so) neither should my friends not i.

Sunny Beach wise, you wouldn't need more than 7 days here. Hotel was about 15 minute walk from the main bars and about the same distance to the beach. Throughly enjoyed the night life, although make sure you keep plenty of coins in your pocket as you need to pay to use the toilet facilities in every bar. Hey the Wela was shaking us down so the rest of Bulgaria may have joined in as well.

Clearly the hotel was overbooked hence the 'room crashing' Surely an overbooked hotel lends itself to other issues notably Health and Safety, if there was to be a crash how can you even begin to be assured that there is an adequate evacuation procedure and capacity to assist. You simply cannot and given that this is a hotel where there was a large number of children and families you just need to ask yourself the question would you want to take your children to a property which adheres to no health and safety standards and purposely overbooks. No.

Room Tip: Don't book here and you will get a great room!
